Both teams are here surprisingly after a very good performance in the tournament. Now they are playing for history, as none of both teams have ever reached the ¼ finals in a World Cup.

Colombia is full of confidence. Although they lost the last round against Morocco after beating Korea Republic in the opening round and the crucial victory against Germany (1:2), which was totally undeserved. Scored the winning goal at 97’ and had only 0.42 expected goals (xG), whilst Germany had 1.81, 68% possession, and missed a lot of chances. The defeat against Morocco (1:0) was totally deserved.

The South Americans are exciting going forward, and Jamaica must make sure young star Linda Caicedo doesn’t get too much time on the ball because she’s capable of producing something special. Mayra Ramirez and Catalina Usme are also attacking threats as Colombia look to become the first side to score past the Jamaicans.

Goalkeeper Catalina Perez was excellent against Germany and centre-back Jorelyn Carabali, who did a great job marking Alexadra Popp, both have key roles, particularly in trying to nullify the all-round threat of Khadija Shaw.

On the other hand, Jamaica has been one of the most impressive teams in the tournament. They have a pretty weak squad but managed to qualify in a very difficult group (Brazil, Panama and France) without conceding a single goal and of course, unbeaten. Their confidence and performances have been growing every minute and every game, and now are facing this match at 200%.

They have heroes across the pitch. Especially at the back: Goalkeeper Rebecca Spencer made great performances and saves, keeping her goal to nil in the three games played and she has been helped by the brilliant defensive duo of the center-backs Allyson and Chantelle Swaby along with the midfielder Vyan Sampson, who shields the backline superbly.

Upfront, Manchester City’s striker Shaw can be a gamechanger, with her ability to hold up play, run with the ball, create chances and score in the box key for her country.

They were outplayed by France and Brazil, but managed their target and showed that they are capable of achieving a positive result even without creating any danger, just defending. France had 2.54 expected goals (xG) and Brazil 1.40, but none of them were able to score a goal. Maybe luck, maybe also good performances from Jamaica's defense.. The fact is that only three teams managed to keep the goal to nil in the group stage (Japan, Jamaica and Switzerland) and the Reggae Girlz were the only team able to qualify to ⅛ scoring just one goal.

I think that Colombia will have the initiative in this match, which of course is a good signal for Jamaica. Colombia has much less quality upfront than Brazil and France so if Jamaica repeats another solid defensive performance, they should be able to at least achieve a draw in the regular time.
