The ‘group of death’ has certainly lived up to the billing and now both Newcastle and PSG must avoid defeat to prevent being eliminated.

Newcastle claimed a fantastic 4-1 victory when these sides last met but a lot has changed since then and I’ve got no doubt that this game will be very different.

Firstly, the injury list is absolutely huge for Eddie Howe. What’s worse, a lot of his key players are out for a sustained period of time. For this match, Sandro Tonali, Sven Botman, Callum Wilson, Dan Burn, Elliot Anderson, Joe Willock, Harvey Barnes, Jacob Murphy and Matt Targett are all ruled out. Between all these players we have key pieces such as Tonali, Callum Willson, Sven Botman and Dan Burn.

Further to this, there is a minor doubt for Eddie Howe. Important midfielder Sean Longstaff missed the last game but he hopes to be fit in time for this match.

Secondly, Paris Saint-Germain are much stronger in Paris – they have won both of their home matches without conceding and lost both of their away games.

For me, the exciting thing about PSG is they are now not a team of superstars, they are a young team with lots of potential. Kylian Mbappe is the talisman, but there are many other talented forwards – Randal Kolo Muani, Lee Kang In and Goncalo Ramos have all been good signings that show the club is thinking of the future. And Ousmane Dembele has performed well since signing from Barcelona , so there are many players who can hurt Newcastle. Full-backs Achraf Hakimi and Lucas Hernandez will also push forward, so I see PSG setting up in an attacking formation.

Coach Luis Enrique has to deal with the absences of two players injured during the international break: the young promise Waren Zaire-Emery and their captain Marquinhos.

They have had one more day to rest, as played against Monaco (achieving a solid victory 5:2) on Friday while Newcastle played on Saturday against Chelsea, winning 4:1.

The international break proved a boon for Newcastle, who had struggled in their previous outings, offering the team a chance to recover and beat Chelsea badly last Saturday.

This is a difficult task for Newcastle, who are known for their ability to fight. Eddie Howe will make sure they work hard and stick to their game plan – marking their opponents closely and putting in strong tackles. I expect them to be dangerous from set-pieces, particularly with Kieran Trippier’s excellent deliveries, and the pace of Anthony Gordon and Miguel Almiron will be important on the break. Up front, Alexander Isak must be clinical with any chances that come his way.

However, we must remember that Newcastle is yet to score away in the UCL, as they weren’t able to do it against Borussia Dortmund (2:0) and Milan (0:0). In both games they were totally outplayed and generated very few chances: 0.44 expected goals in Dortmund, 0.19 in Milan. In the Premier League things are not different, as their last away game was a 2:0 defeat against relegation side Bournemouth, generating just 0.29 expected goals.

But in front of their own fans, I expect PSG to be too strong for Newcastle, so it’s a home win. PSG’s attack will be too strong for Newcastle’s depleted defence.
