The DFL Supercup will feature a clash between two of Germany's best teams this weekend as RB Leipzig face off with Thomas Tuchel's Bayern Munich side in a massive encounter at the Allianz Arena on Saturday night. Bayern ran out 5-3 winners during a pulsating encounter last time around, and they are aiming to win this competition for the seventh time in the last eight years. Bayern Munich won yet another Bundesliga title last season. Bayern defeated AS Monaco by a comfortable 4-2 margin in their previous game and will be confident ahead of this fixture. Meanwhile, RB Leipzig finished in third place in the Bundesliga standings last season and have consistently punched above their weight over the past year. The away side eased past Las Palmas by a 3-0 margin last week and will look to achieve same feat in this match. In case you don't know, the DFL Supercup is a match played every year between the winner of the German Bundesliga and the DFB Cup winner. For this encounter, I am expecting a win for Bayern Munich for the following reasons:

Firstly. Bayern had faced Borussia Dortmund in eight of the previous 10 DFL-Supercup's prior to coming out on top against Leipzig at the Red Bull Arena in last season's edition. Bayern Munich’s only defeat in the pre-season friendlies was against the English champions Manchester City. Apart from that, they have been sealing high-scoring victories. Despite couple of absentees from the team due to injury, Tuchel has plenty of star quality to choose from, including Golden Boy favourite Jamal Musiala after his goal clinched an 11th consecutive Meisterschale in May. He and his teammates will be eager to lay down a marker ahead of the new Bundesliga campaign.

Secondly. RB Leipzig are not looking like a team ready for the new season just yet. They faced weaker outfits in their recent friendlies. Even in that stretch, they lost to Ipswich and Udinese. Such an inconsistent form will count much against this Bayern side for sure. They could be heading into a period of transition after selling star players Josko Gvardiol, Dominik Szoboszlai and Christopher Nkunku for big-money fees to Premier League clubs, while the likes of Marcel Halstenberg, Angelino, Andre Silva and Laimer have also all departed the club either permanently or on loan. They may most likely bring some form of instability in their ranks while they readjust.

Although both sides may not be at their free-flowing best due to some injury issues and having to accommodate several new faces, I expect to see another entertaining DFL-Supercup between these two teams. Bayern Munich seem to have reached the end of their transitional period and will be intent on kicking off their new season with a victory. The likes of Leroy Sane and Serge Gnabry can be lethal on their day and will look to step up this weekend. Bayern Munich are the better team at the moment, and should be able to win this game.
