Sirius are set to host AIK at Studenternas IP Stadium for their upcoming league fixture in the Swedish Allsvenkan on Monday night. Both sides sit right by one another in the table and narrowly above the relegation zone just after the halfway stage in Sweden. After joining the top flight in 2017, Sirius achieved their best result, finishing seventh in the league. In the following seasons, they were finishing in the lower part of the league table, reasonably close to the relegation zone. This season, after 16 games, they are in 12th on 17 points, with just three points from the relegation zone. They were beaten 3-2 by Mjällby AIF in their last outing. Meanwhile, AIK are 13th in the league table, tied with the 14th-placed Degerfors, who are in the relegation playout spot, but they do have a game in hand, and should feel confident with results slowly but surely improving. AIK played a goalless draw with Malmo in their last outing. For this encounter, I am expecting a win or a draw for the home team for the following reasons:

Firstly. Ahead of this clash, it is AIK who are suffering more with the club sitting on just three victories across the 16 games and eight defeats so far. They have scored the second fewest goals in the league with 14 goals scored. Only Varbergs BoIS at the bottom of the league table have scored fewer, while AIK have also lost the second-most number of games in the league for those outside of the relegation zone (8). However recently, AIK have managed to put together a good run of form and have lost just one of their last five games in Sweden's top flight. Their only defeat in this five-game period was at home to Hacken, as Tychosen scored the opening goal before a comeback win for the side second in the league. So, they might still have a fight in them.

Secondly. Sirius are sitting three clear of the relegation zone and also have a better goals difference record than AIK, as they've scored 21 times alongside their four wins and seven losses in 16 games. A 3-0 win over Degerfors aside, Sirius have lost three games in July, conceding eight goals. After a run of three successive wins just before the break, Christer Mattiasson's side have struggled since, as recent form has seen them slide down into 12th, three points above upcoming opponents AIK. They have however won three games in their last six games as against two won by AIK in same games period.

Sirius are having a little slump right now, but having AIK breathing down their necks, I expect them to put up a proper fight to avoid defeat against their direct rivals in the league table whom they are three points ahead of. I am expecting a win or a draw for Sirius in this encounter.
