JäPS vs MP

JäPS welcome visitors all the way from Mikkeli for this Finnish Ykkönen clash at Järvenpään keskuskenttä. This is a match between two pretty lowly teams in this very low-level league by European standards. However, our goal is to make profit – once again! JäPS currently occupy the 5th place in the standings with 16 points but a bad goal difference of 12:19. They lost to Gnistan in 1-10 in Helsinki early season and this more or less proves that they are not a good team. Their good results is a huge surprise as the team is inexperienced and were promoted from the 3rd tier, Kakkonen for this season. They have very small financial resources and will surely drop down in the standings as the season progresses. The betting market hugely over-values them once again. They are not expected to field their best squad today which of course hurts them. They were not great in their most recent match in at MagneCit Areena against the biggest disappointment of the season, PK-35 from Helsinki. The hosts dominated them in the first half and cruised to a 2-0 lead. PK-35, however, declined significantly in the second half and JäPS traveled home with a point after a 2-2 draw. I was at the arena watching this low-level match, even by Ykkönen standards – and I must say the point they earned was more because of Pk-35 performing at a low level once again than JäPS being good. JäPS have got a lot of media attention here in Finland lately and this is of course not totally undeserved but the odds on them seem to be too low in most matches,,

Indeed, the hosts beat AC Oulu, a pretty good Veikkausliiga team, 2-1 at home in Finnish Cup a while ago but did not earn the win really.. Oulu definitely played below their normal level in this match and seemed to under-estimate JäPS. The winning goal was mainly AC Oulu’s own fault, not great play from JäPS. Except for the AC Oulu game, the visitors have faced mainly relatively lowly opponents lately. They beat PEPO 4-2 on the road but PEPO are indeed a pretty lame team. It was not a performance that would really convince me.. They also defeated PIF Parainen - who are totally out of form and have lost six matches in a row now - also on the road, 1-0 but Parainen, actually, recorded much more scoring attempts and the win was somewhat unjustified. MP are nothing special but played better than I would have expected in their most recent match, and I have raised their power rating as a result. It was a home draw 1-1 against Gnistan. The team from Helsinki are in the second place in the standings and only managed to score in the 90´ minute. MP are clear favorites today!
