Ajax is favorite here in my opinion.

Benfica is a very weak team right now. The changing of the coach wasn’t good for the team, as they are playing even worse and with very poor performances. Furthermore, their results are far from good.

The team has very low chemistry and are conceding many goals at the back. They made a good group stage in the Champions League, winning Barcelona at home and achieving a draw in the Camp Nou. But right now Benfica is at a lower level than some months ago.

On the other hand we have a team who is in amazing form like Ajax. Since the defeat against AZ in December they have won all games played, which are 10 in a row.

Of course the Eredivisie isn’t a top league like the Premier League, but we must mention that Ajax is by far the team with less goals conceded: 5 goals in 23 games.

In the UCL group stage they conceded goals (5 in 6 games) but also showed the second best record in attack after Bayern Munich (22 goals) - they scored 20 goals. Won the 6 games played and destroyed rivals like Borussia Dortmund and Sporting CP. Even away from home they achieved huge victories as they have spaces to run and attack, where they feel very comfortable.

Ajax has several players in top form right now and for this competition, such as Halller, the current Champions League top scorer with 10 goals so far. Furthermore, we must remember how Ajax destroyed Sporting CP in the group stage (4:2 and 1:5), a team who is currently above Benfica (6 points in the league) and beat them easily two times reecenty: in the Cup (1:2) 3 weeks ago and in the league (1:3) 2 months ago. In both games Sporting outplayed them.

This fixture is probably one of the most lopsided matches we have in this round of Champions League. Benfica is in poor form and are a weak team, while Ajax is on amazing form and have a lot of quality upfront + a good defense. Furthermore, they easily beat a Portuguese team who is better than Benfica, like Sporting CP.

With both teams at their current level, Ajax should be able to score some goals and win this game.
