DEPORTIVO - ALBACETE

This is a key moment for Depor to remind everyone who they really are. Results lately haven’t been brilliant, especially at home, but for me they remain the best team in the league and one of the strongest candidates for direct promotion. These small dips in form are part of the season, and I fully expect them to react.

Depor have far more football than what they’ve shown in recent weeks. The squad is deep, experienced and built to dominate games, especially at Riazor. Yes, there is a lack of goals from the strikers recently, and that has been discussed a lot, but the overall structure of the team is still solid. They create, they control territory, they press high, and they rarely get outplayed. What has been missing is efficiency.

And then there is Yeremay. For me, there is no debate here. Yeremay Hernández is the best player in the league, by a distance. He has a level that belongs to a Europa League team, minimum. Every time Depor struggle, he is the one who breaks lines, accelerates the game and changes the rhythm. In a match like this, against a rival that will sit deep and defend with five, his one-v-one ability and decision-making in the final third are absolutely decisive.

On the other side, I see an Albacete team that is clearly overperforming. They are in a good run, three wins in a row and four clean sheets... But this is not a strong squad. For me, they are a mid-table side with one of the weakest rosters in the league, at the level of newly promoted teams like Cultural Leonesa or Ceuta. Their current streak feels more like a peak than a new normal.

There are also physical and mental factors that cannot be ignored. Albacete played Copa against Barcelona in the midweek, and not rotating, using starters. Three games in seven days at this level is tough, especially for a team without depth. Fatigue will be there, preparation time has been reduced, and now they travel to Riazor, which is never an easy place when Depor are focused.

Another detail I find very important is the transfer of Riki. One of Albacete’s best players has moved precisely to Depor, and that says a lot. He knows this Albacete side perfectly, their automatisms, their weaknesses, and he arrives with motivation to prove himself straight away. I wouldn’t be surprised at all if he plays a key role in midfield, especially against his former team.

Tactically, I expect a very clear script. Albacete will defend low with a back five, prioritising compactness and trying to slow the game down. They won’t come to dominate. Depor, on the other hand, must be patient but aggressive. Circulation, width, and constant pressure after loss will be crucial. If Depor score first, this game should open up in their favour, because Albacete don’t have the tools to chase matches.

Depor know that promotion is built at home, and they are fully aware that recent dropped points cannot continue. There is a sense of responsibility here, and I expect a very serious performance. For me, this is exactly the type of game where the real contenders step forward. Depor have more quality, more depth, more ambition, and the best player on the pitch. Now it’s time to show it again.

NORDSJAELLAND - SONDERJYSKE

On the table it might look like a balanced duel, but in terms of trajectory and potential, I see the home side in a very strong position to impose themselves. For me, Nordsjælland have one of the most talented squads in the league. They haven’t always shown it consistently in the first half of the season, but that doesn’t change the fact that the ceiling of this team is very high. The long winter break is a big positive for them. No key sales, plenty of time on the training ground, and more time for the older signings brought in during summer to fully adapt to the system. That continuity matters a lot for a team so dependent on automatisms and collective timing.

Players like Lahteenmäki, Yirenkyi, Prince Amoako and Markmann are right at that point where they can take a real step up and become major profiles in the Superliga. This club has a history of that exact progression, and I think we are about to see another wave. Almost everyone in this squad can improve individually, and when that happens at Nordsjælland, the whole team level rises naturally.

At home, they are a different animal. The artificial turf at Right to Dream Park is not just a surface, it’s a weapon. The speed of circulation, the confidence in one-touch play, the intensity of the pressing, all of that is amplified there. We saw it before the break, with dominant home performances and big scorelines. When they play with rhythm in Farum, they are extremely difficult to stop.

Sønderjyske, on the other hand, give me a very different feeling. I honestly think they overperformed compared to their real level. A lot of things went their way, tight games, fine margins, moments of efficiency that are hard to sustain over time. This squad, for me, is much closer to mid-table quality than what their position suggests.

The winter break hasn’t helped them either. Losing their topscorer Ingason is a massive blow. On top of that, having key players like Gretarsson, Oggesen and Sommer doubtful is worrying. Even if one of them misses out or is not at 100%, the drop-off is significant. This is not a squad with much depth, and away from home, those absences are felt even more.

Tactically, I expect Sønderjyske to be compact and competitive, as always. They will try to slow the game down, protect the central zones and survive the first phases. But the problem is that Nordsjælland are very good at stretching low blocks on this pitch. The movement between lines, the rotations in midfield, and the speed out wide can wear teams down, especially if legs are not fresh.

I also think motivation plays a role here. Nordsjælland know they are right on the edge of the top six. This is one of those home games they simply must take. For me, this is the moment where Nordsjælland begin to look like the team many expected them to be at the start of the season. Strong at home, sharper physically, and with their young talent ready to take responsibility. Against a Sønderjyske side that I believe is coming back down towards its true level, this is a very good spot for the hosts to make a statement.
