Gnistan appear to be finding their best form of the season at just the right time, as the battle for the last spot in the upper play-off group heats up. Their 5–2 away win over IFK Mariehamn in the previous round, and the 2–2 draw against Ilves before that, were both performances that exceeded expectations. The return of Roman Eremenko to the line-up at this decisive stage of the season is a major boost, and the performances of Matias Ritari, on loan from HJK, in Gnistan’s midfield also deserve special mention. Tim Väyrynen remains sidelined with an injury, and head coach Jussi Leppälahti will watch the match from the stands due to a touchline ban.

VPS’s winless run has now stretched to nine matches, after losing 1–2 to SJK in the local derby last round, despite the scoring chances being evenly split.
