Still, GAIS look built to handle these shifts. Even without Amin Boudri — who was brilliant in the win over Hammarby — there’s depth and composure in this team. Diabate is on fire, and his physical presence and pressing have caused even top defences all sorts of problems. His two goals and an assist last week weren’t a fluke — he’s becoming one of the most decisive players in the league. Around him, the likes of Milovanovic and Petrovic offer both energy and intelligence. Defensively, they’re sound and organised, and their one loss away from home all season shows they know how to manage these matches.

The big challenge for GAIS will be mental. Are they ready to embrace the pressure of expectation? Because make no mistake — they are now favourites in fixtures like this. Fredrik Holmberg has done a stunning job building a side with identity, hunger and tactical maturity. This is not a fluke run of form. They’ve passed every test so far, and if they keep the tempo up, Degerfors will struggle to live with them.

Degerfors do have talent — Pihlström, Barsoum, and Faraj are all capable on their day — but they’ve lacked structure, balance and belief for too long. Goitom may eventually turn things around, but it’s a massive task, and GAIS are the last team you want to face when you’re low on confidence. Unless Degerfors produce something remarkable, this feels like another long 90 minutes for them.
