Gnistan challenge KuPS in  this Veikkausliiga clash at Väre Areena, in the city of Kuopio, late Tuesday evening Beijing time. Essomba scored the final goal (2-2) in the 90th+2 minute.  Taking the strong opposition into account Gnistan performed well as a whole, even recording one more shot on goal. Inter did, however, have one more big scoring chance - 2-1 to be precise. Either team could have won the game. Indeed, The odds on the Gnistan win were, based on the events on the pitch, too high. The same is true here against KuPS but we will take the Gnistan +1.5 goals handicap option. Before the game against Inter Gnistan faced VPS in Vaasa, as underdogs according to the bookies. KuPS have scored 19 goals and have allowed 13 goals in this league so far. But their number of expected goals allowed (xGA) is higher is - 1.49 per game to be precise! KuPS kicked the Veikkausliiga season well results-wise - taking six wins and one draw in the first seven games -  but also had quite a lot of luck on their side in many of these seven matches, especially in the Veikkausliiga opening round against Inter Turku and in round 3 against  a newly-promoted team, Jaro, at home! However, before beating HJK KuPS failed to win five Veikkausliiga games in a row! Moreover, they have failed to score a single goal in these five matches! What a strangely poor record that is.. Especially  striker Agon Sadiku, who was really effective in the Veikkausliiga - playing for Honka -  in 2022, has been a massive disappointment. KuPS simply do not have a striker that would regularly score goals.. Yes, Luyeye-Lutumba netted the ball three times against HJK, but he has been lame in most games this season.  Moreover, KuPS have lost four of their last six Veikkausliiga games..

Yes, KuPS easily defeated two very bad lower league (mainly) amateur teams in the Suomen Cup in May and June but I will not give these wins a lot of emphasis ahead of this match against a decent team, Gnistan. Before beating Haka KuPS lost to a relatively limited team, IFK Mariehamn (MIFK) 0-1 on the road, as very clear favourites according to the bookmakers. Yes, they recorded many more total shots than MIFk - but had just one more big scoring chance - 3-2 to be precise.. Most of KuPS' attacks lacked speed, creativity and passing accuracy at critical moments/in key areas - near the opponent's goal. However, MIFK also defended a little better than I would have expected.. Before this KuPS lost to Ilves 0-3 at home - after a very poor performance! They failed to record a single big scoring chance! Ilves, on the other hand, managed five! The team from Tampere also generated 2.78 in xG  - KuPS managed only 0.52!
