KuPS, last season’s league champions, led by Jarkko Wiss, had been struggling for weeks. They had picked up just one point from their last five league games without scoring a single goal. But when HJK, on a streak of nine unbeaten league matches and twelve in all competitions, visited Väre Areena last Friday, and things turned around completely. The home side dismantled the visitors from Helsinki with a dominant 3–0 win! It was not immediately apparent from recent performances, but the class should always have been there. What will happen tonight?

KuPS opened the scoring as early as the third minute. A short corner was worked to Clinton Antwi, whose cross found Joslyn Luyeye-Lutumba for a powerful header to make it 1–0. Just five minutes later, Luyeye-Lutumba struck again, this time receiving a through ball from Otto Ruoppi and finishing past Thijmen Nijhuis for 2–0. And he wasn't done yet — Luyeye-Lutumba completed his hat trick in the 71st minute with another assist from Antwi, sealing the 3–0 result. Despite the scoreline, the expected goals favored HJK slightly, 2.0 to 1.7. Was all down to Lutumbas crazy day? He has not been an efficient striker until this match!

I am not yet fully convinced KuPS are where they should be. They have now a few confidence-boosting wins, but the earlier season was so bad that I need to see more from them to fully believe, and in any case, Gnistan have a good squad!
