Peru VS Bolivia

Bolivia challenge Peru in this South America World Championship Qualification round 13 battle at Estadio Nacional in Lima Friday morning Beijing time. Football fans and us serious, profit-hungry bettors can expect a match of worse than average quality by this competition's standards here.. Peru are currently in 40th place in the FIFA ranking. Bolivia, on the other hand, occupy the 79th place. However, in my power rating, that reflects the teams' pure class with the best possible lineups – excluding all the special factors - for example motivation and fatigue - caused by a grueling schedule - I see Peru as a slightly better team than 40th on the planet.. Bolivia are an “interesting” team and are by pure class not among the best 90 national teams in the word – if the game(s) were played at normal altitude. However, Bolivia play their home games at Estadio Municipal de El Alto in El Alto in very high altitude, at over 3000 kilometers! This has a huge effect on the game. Previously they played at Estadio Hernando Siles in La Paz – also at a very high altitude. At home they sometimes upset very good teams but on the road they are usually totally “useless”. Indeed, they have lost 12 of their last 13 games outside Bolivia. I expect Peru to be aggressive right from the kickoff here – putting big pressure on the shaky Bolivia defence. I expect Peru to win and even a very clear win would not be a surprise..

Yes, Peru have been a big disappointment results-wise and slightly disappointing performance-wise in the Qualification. However, in the previous Qualification (for Qatar 2022) they finished in 5th place with 24 points in their pocket. They have a lot of talent in the squad and can improve significantly. They have taken only seven points so far but their number of expected points (xPTS) is much bigger. They are in 10th place but as even the team that finished in 7th place has a chance to qualify for the World Cup 2026,  Peru still have a genuine chance. However, this is more or less a must win and I expect Peru to take some risks late into the second half. Peru have loud and enthusiastic fans and I am positive the players will be boosted by the support. Bolivia are often way too passive on the road and this usually costs them in the 2nd half at the latest. In their most recent game they were completely crushed in Ecuador – 4-0 was the final score. The hosts had 17 shots on goal – Bolivia managed only one. Peru lost to Argentina 0-1 on the road in their last game but defended pretty well - as massive underdogs.
