Ball possession was almost 50-50% and Sporting even recorded more attacks.. Ajax also had only eight shots on goal so they were extremely effective in that match! I suspect that heavy loss still affects the odds here.. It was just one match and I never give too much emphasis on just one game. We must also remember that Ajax are an extremely good team and did beat Dortmund 3-1 in Germany - and had 64% ball possession and more than double the amount of both attacks and dangerous attacks compared to Dortmund. In Amsterdam Ajax crushed the Germans 4-0!

Dortmund did beat Sporting in late September 1-0 at home. I just watched the match again and it was indeed a pretty balanced match overall.. The hosts had 55% ball possession but Sporting even had even more scoring attempts - seven whereas Dortmund had six. In Lisbon, with a substantial home advantage, I see the hosts as of course not as huge but still as solid favorites. Dortmund have a very bad situation with their squad at the moment.. Indeed they are very depleted as they will still be without several players for this trip to Portugal. Erling Braut Haaland, their best player and a true world-class striker is still out due to a hip injury. This is a huge loss for the German club! Perhaps even bigger than the betting marker realizes.. Marcel Schmelzer has a knee injury. Nico Schulz, Mateu Morey and Dan-Axel Zagadou have also been all ruled out. Three players - Giovanni Reyna, Marius Wolf and Youssoufa Moukoko are doubtful at the time of writing this. Thorgan Hazard was tested positive for COVID-19 and is forced to stay in quarantine. Veteran defender Mats Hummels is suspended. Malen is expected to lead the line again as Haaland is out. Reus and Brandt will probably join him in offense.
