I am leaving aside the facts of Shakhtar’s squad supremacy and greater Champions League experience, what should prove the decisive factor is the changed attitude towards Sheriff. There should be no underestimation or complacency anymore shown by their opponents, of course, giants Inter and Real Madrid aside.

The other valuable argument would be the importance of these head to head games for Shakhtar. De Zerbi is well aware that in a group with Inter and Real Madrid, to stand a chance of progressing he has to take maximum points against Sheriff.

Shakhtar is coming into the game in ok form, though, truth be told, they’re far from convincing so far under De Zerbi. Even the Italian manager himself is admitting the process of his ideas integration is still underway and some way off.

As for the team news, Sheriff lost one of their important attacking units Luvvanor, who was an integral part of their qualifying triumph (4 goals +1 assist in 7 UCL starts) and 38 goals + 4 assists in Sheriff shirt overall through 81 appearances.

Shakhtar has come to Tiraspol without their Israeli winger Solomon (celebrating an important National holiday on Wednesday, not many resources are aware of this) and first choice keeper Trubin.

Fair and healthy looking odds for an away win here in Asian books, with a few bounces it could well get to -0.25 handicap and that would make it an even greater deal.
