Union Berlin host Augsburg at Stadion An der Alten Försterei for this German Bundesliga clash. Union Berlin surprised me, probably almost all football analysts and the betting market last season finishing 7th in the Bundesliga and feel they still do not get the respect the would deserve.. Especially at home they should once again be very strong in front of amazingly enthusiastic fans and should be too strong for Augusburg today. Union Berlin are unbeaten in their eighteen latest matches at home in Bundesliga - stunning record especially taking into account the Covid-19 restrictions on spectators at the stadiums. I do realize they are not a traditional big club in Europe - or even in Germany but perhaps this is one of the reasons why they are once again under-valued by the betting market here. Also they do not have any big names/ stars in the the team. However, they play great as a team and the team spirit seems to be very good. Whilst I think being in top-7 this season is perhaps a little too much to ask I'm expecting another good season from them. They will face Slavia Prague next week in conference League which some analysts think is a negative factor for them going into this match. I think this factor has very little affect here as it is the first of the six group stage matches - not an ultra important playoff match and doing well, especially at home is very important for Union Berlin.

First they played good match versus a big club Bayer Leverkusen - it was 1-1 draw at home. Then they took a point for Hoffenheim in Sinsheim as clear underdogs and lastly beat in-form Mönchengladbach who are a good team by raw class too. All handy performances indeed! Augsburg, on the other hand, have been disappointing having scored just one point and second last in the standings and did not really deserve more points based on events on the pitch. Their defense has looked very vulnerable and they would have to improve a lot to grab even a draw here.. Union Berlin have been effective in offense and have a good chance to score at least two goals here. Even one might be enough as Augsburg lack offensive creativity and quality. They are also a bad team away from home having failed to win any of their latest away matches in Bundesliga. By raw class Union Berlin are a lot stronger and even in a good form Augsburg would be clear underdogs today.
