RoPS vs Klubi 04

RoPS welcome visitors from Helsinki at Rovaniemen Keskuskenttä at the Arctic Circle for this Finnish Ykkönen match. Ykkönen is the second highest level of football here in Finland and a league I, as a Finn, have watched extremely closely for some thirty years already and been betting on for some twenty years achieving a very good return on investment. RoPS are a traditional Veikkausliiga - which is the highest level of Finnish football - club and have a very good change to return to Veikkausliiga for next season. They had a very young - way too young for Veikkuasliiga I would say team last season and the results were bad as expected. This mostly because of a lack of financial resources and they had also lost their great coach Toni Koskela already in the middle of the previous season. Koskela left RoPS to coach HJK Helsinki, the biggest team in Finland. For this level RoPS are perhaps even too good and lead Ykkönen at the moment. They have won four of their latest five matches and performed well this season at home in Rovaniemi in front of their loyal fans. They were defeated last week-end in Ekenäs but Ekenäs IF are a good team and were some 47% favorites to win that match. Ekenäs were the better team but RoPS played still a decent match. I rate them as the second best team in Ykkönen at the moment after VPS.

Klubi 04 are HJK Helsinki's academy team and most players are young talents but still very inexperienced. Sometimes experienced players from HJK like Markus Halsti and Sebastian Dahlström have also played some matches for Klubi 04. For years the team played in Kakkonen which is one level below Ykkönen. At the moment I rate Klubi 04, who are the rock-bottom team at the moment, as the 9th best team in Ykkönen. JIPPO, MuSa and Mikkelin Palloilijat are worse than Klubi 04 in my opinion. Last week they crushed MuSa at Bolt Arena in Helsinki 4-0 and surely they were the better team but they were also some 45% favorites to win and 4-0 does not quite reflect the events on the pitch. They did improve quite a lot from previous matches but most definitely were not super good. In my view MuSa were simply quite bad overall but still had 52% ball and some scoring chances too. Perhaps a win by two goals for Klubi 04 would have been the justified result. Ahead of this match versus RoPS it seems to betting betting market over-emphasizes the meaning of the 4-0 win. It is also worth noticing that Baba Mensah who has played in Veikkausliiga and two promising youngsters Taddeus Nkengi and Marcello Beuker have recently joined the team which does make them stronger but again I think not as much as the betting market and some football analysts seem to think..

To sum up, RoPS are clear favorites at home and have some 56-57% chance of winning. My pick for my fans is RoPS -0.5 goals handicap.
