In my opinion Mexico have really good chances to at least avoid loss in 90 minutes against Japan today.

Both teams played each other in group stage (odds looked almost the same). Japan recorded 2:1 win, but is hard to say they played much better than Mexico in that game or so. Japan scored two fast goals in first 11 minutes of the game, but since then Mexico looked more convincing. Their advantage was very visible, especially in the second half when Japan had only 2 shots and 38% ball possession.

From what I saw Japan played excellent at the start of tournament, but in knock out stage their level dropped a lot. In quarter finaled they needed penalty kicks to win against poor New Zealand and in semis they lost after extra time against Spain. In both matches they had problems with finishing product and tiredness may be problematic as well after two such demanding matches.

On the other hand Mexico in semis against strong Brazil showed very good organisation skills at the back and they looked extremely solid till the end. That was very equal match which could finished both ways. Unfortunately, Mexico lost after penalty kicks. Anyway, such a good performance against top quality opposition should give them a lot of confidence. Mexico have huge potential upfront, in 3 of 5 matches in this tournament they scored more than 2 goals. They failed only against Brazil - the strongest team in whole tournament.

Pressure is on Japan cause they are hosts and this is perfect opportunity for Mexico to gi under the radar and win bronze medal.
