Croatia have dropped a lot in quality since the World Cup final, and they have not convinced one bit, and the fresh-looking Scotland does have the home advantage!

Luka Modric perhaps was world’s best player at some point, but now at 35 years he is not as athletic as he used to be, and more importantly the players around him are not as good. On individual level Croatia still looks like a top-16 team, but collectively they have not impressed. Performances count more than the names on the back of the shirt. In the opener v England Crotia offered us nothing to see and they were from a draw despite the narrow 1-0 margin, and the 1-1 vs Czechs was a fair result. Personally I opposed Croatia in both of those games, and will continue to do so!

The defense is the main weakness of Croatia, the head coach Dalic knows that well and tries to compensate it with risk-free, careful, pointless and slow attacking. Full-back Barisic likely to miss also this game.

Scotland were unlucky to lose to Czechs, they won the xG-data hands down but the crazy night of Schick destroyed their hopes. Against England away at Wembley they were the better team and deserved fully at the least point, maybe even some more! Scotland were brave, good with the ball, strong with high pressure, dangerous in creating attacks. All in all they have created worth of more than 2 goals of xG, and they will score tonight at home in Glasgow.

It is not luck they need, just some clinical finishing. Self-confidence and fitness seem to excellent.

Scotland are a hard-working side, for example they have run 10% more than Croatia has so far in the two first games, and maybe it is down to youth? Unfortunately the excellent Billy Gilmour is out due covid, but otherwise Scotland have a full squad available.

Neither can afford not to win and even if a draw would be a horrible result it is still a strong possibility and neither want to be behind either, and I am expecting extremely defensive approach from both in the starting 75-80 minutes.

Head-to-head stats are the most useless piece of information, but just out of curiosity have to point out that Croatia have won none of the 5 meetings on 21st century.

Can not see much experimenting with lineups. Croatia’s chances are on the shoulders of the best individuals Modric, Perisic and Vrsjalko, but I believe in collectivity and energy here.
