A poor first season in the Premier League for both. Chelsea has a 2-1-1 record and West Ham has a 1-1-2 record. Chelsea started the season by losing at home to Manchester City 0-2 and then beat Wolves 6-2 away, drew 1-1 at home with Crystal Palace and most recently beat Bournemouth 1-0 away.

Against City, Chelsea was so much worse that the loss did not hurt too much. Then against Wolves, everything went nuts again. The xG counts of the match were pretty even, 2.16 – 2.65 for Chelsea, but sometimes it just happens that almost everything sinks. Six sacks with less than three xG readings is a rarity.

Against Palace, Chelsea didn't succeed again. There were chances to score, xG reading of almost 3 goals. but now it didn't work out. Palace then scored their goal with less than 50% probability.

On Bournemouth's field, Chelsea was badly down, but still managed to win. In that match, Bournemouth won xGs by more than half a goal!

At this point, you can't say anything about Chelsea other than that it's uneven. As visitors they have done well result-wise, but no trend can be derived from it. It remains to be seen where Chelsea's game will be. If it continues unevenly like this, the manager can get fired sooner or later. The team has potential, but the level is not maintained.

And the Hammers haven't been convincing either!

Hammers started the season by losing at home to Aston Villa 1-2. A fairly even match, Villa won narrowly in the xG statistics, the shots were even.

At least James is sidelined from Chelsea, but Lavia, Gusto, Fernandez and Dewsbury-Hall might now be fit to play after rest in the last match.

These two have new managers at work this season. The Hammers' Lopetegui is certainly more experienced at directing the game than Chelsea's Maresca.
