Finally the opening game of this Euro 2021 (2020) between Turkey and Italy to be played in Stadio Olimpico of Rome.

Both teams are in Group A including also Wales and Switzerland. Very difficult group with all teams almost in the same level with Italy being favorite as 1st.

Turkey is coming in this Euro after a very good qualification campaign. This is their 5th partecipation, best result was in 2008 where they reached the semifinal and 2012 where reached the quarterfinals. In other competitions had poor results.

Coach is Senol Gunes, one of the best and most experienced in Turkey. He was on charge also in World Cup 2002 where turkish national finished 3rd.

He uses a very solid 4-1-4-1 mostly defensive and very dangerous in counter attacks. Turkey have a quality team overall and 15 from 26 players called are from top european teams like st Yazici, st Yilmaz and def Celik who just win the French Ligue I, mid Calhanoglu good season with Milan and def Demiral from Juventus, def Kabak from Liverpool or def Soyuncu from Leicester.

Italy in other hand returned to play a big competition after the fail in last World Cup qualifications. With coach Mancini they started a new cycle based on talented players of Serie A like Pessina, Locatelli, Toloi, Bastoni and some veterans like Chiellini,Bonucci,Acerbi, Immobile, Jorghino who can bring a winning mentality.

The results are good and currently in a streak of 25 games without a lost including also 2 draws.

However despite this Italian national team is solid they faced only 2 top teams during all this time Netherlands and Poland.

I think both teams have chances for a result today, despite Italy is favorite as playing in their stadium. Turkey can be an aggressive team sometime and is not easy to play against them.
