It didn't go well in the European Championships

Both of these teams were involved in the summer EC tournament, and both were bad in those games. Scotland lost 1-5 to Germany in the opening of the tournament, managed to draw 1-1 with Switzerland in the next match, but then when they should have taken care of the next place, they lost 0-1 to Hungary.

Poland started the European Championships with two losses. First 1-2 against Holland and then 1-3 against Austria. Poland played a 1-1 draw with France in the last match. The Polish group in the summer games was tougher, but you can't give the Poles any excuses.

Now then, it would be essential that what the teams have changed after the EC games. Both still have the same head coach, Scotland's Steve Clarke and Poland's Michal Probierz, so probably very similar teams are on the field now than a couple of months ago in the European Championship games.
