PAOK have won six of their last seven competitive home games – and three of the last games in front of their fans! These wins came over Panathinaikos (4-1), Olympiakos (2-0) and AEK Athens (3-2) in spring in the Super League and over a pretty big Croatian Dinamo Zagreb 5-1 in the Conference League in April and lastly 3-2 over Banja Luka about a month ago.

The often undervalued Brazilian left-winger, Taison, 36, is a player to watch very closely here. He levelled it at 1-1 in the 42nd minute last week. The Brazilian is expected to operate in a wide area on here, while B. Thomas should be given the nod in the final third of the field. It is well possible that head Lucescu will name the same starting eleven that took to the field for the first whistle of the reverse match in Malmö, with B. Rahman continuing at left-back.. As for Malmo, S.Nanasi, the Finnish veteran player, Niklas Moisander, Anton Tinnerholm and Stefano Vecchia will all be out due to fitness issues. Isaac Kiese Thelin, 32, deserves to mentioned - has been in excellent form this season, scoring goals 16 times in all competitions. He will continue in the final third of the field for the Swedish visitors. Erik Botheim, too, has played well this season, netting the ball on 12 occasions in 23 appearances-The pair will look to carry the goal scoring threat for the Swedes in this game. With the expected lineups, taking the huge home advantage into account - the professional bettor's obvious choice is the PAOK win. PAOK emerged victorious in the first leg at home only 3-2 but were the significantly better team on the pitch! Yes, they recorded many more goal attempts (11-6), shots on goal (7-3), corner kicks, attacks and especially dangerous attacks – 107-60 to be precise. In the second leg PAOK played a strong, tactically wise game! Even a draw would have been enough for them to qualify but they took advantage of one of their eight goal attempts, winning 1-0 in the end. I was impressed by the way they shut down Banja Luka's offense – allowing the hosts just one shot on target – even despite the fact that Banja Luka tried to be active and were cheered on by some 9000 loud fans. PAOK also recorded many more corner kicks, attacks and dangerous attacks in this clash. The difference between Malmo and PAOK is considerable in the Greeks' favour in all areas of the game. However, the Greek Super League has not started yet – Malmö have played 17 matches in the Allsvenskan. This, of course, clearly benefits the Swedish visitors.. However, the two games against Banja Luka – and a tough game in Malmö surely helped PAOK significantly. They seemed to play quite well as a team against Banja Luka but can – and most probably will – improve here. I want to emphasize that on average the PAOK players are more skilled individually - and faster than the Malmö players. PAOK can play in various different ways - ie. have a high ball possession or let the opponent keep the ball and go for deadly counter attacks after transitions.. I believe they will -- unlike in Malmö – be active here  - especially early in the first half – pushing the Malmö defence relentlessly - going for the opening goal. PAOK taking the lead would electrify the stadium and make Malmö's job very difficult as PAOK, as mentioned, are a tactically smart team. This has not, in all honesty, been the case with Greek teams in the past. Indeed, their Romanian head coach, R. Lucescu, has done a great job at PAOK!

PAOK are the reigning champions of Greece and were extremely strong last season – even better than I would have expected! They improved a lot from the previous season but the bookmakers do not seem to have fully realized this. Indeed, PAOK were undervalued in a large number of international games last season. In my expert opinion PAOK have a genuine chance of even making it to the Champions League group stage. Of course to make this happen they will have to be at their very best and probably need a bit of luck in terms of the draw - who they will face in the last round – should they eliminate Malmö, of course. I want to give my fans an example of how impressive PAOK were last season.. Indeed, they for example defeated a pretty strong German Bundesliga team, Frankfurt, on the road as big underdogs on the betting market! Moreover, they qualified for the UEFA Europa Conference League quarter-finals last season but were in the end beaten by Club Brugge, a much bigger (Belgian) team than PAOK are in terms of players' estimated total market value PAOK grabbed a fine 60 points and scored 66 goals. This was the biggest number in the Greek Super League last season. They allowed only 21 goals – which was the lowest number – together with Panathinaikos, in this league. Let's also not forget that according to a well-known and respected German website, Transfermarkt.com, PAOK are the bigger team here - by a substantial margin.. Indeed, the PAOK players are valued at an estimated total of 100 million euros! The Malmö squad is valued at around 42 million euros. This is slightly too high though.. About 35-36 million would be a more accurate number. Especially left midfielder, Sebastian Nanasi, 22, with an estimated market value of eight million – the highest number in the Malmö squad – is definitely overvalued!

Malmö have lost three of their last five seven matches– winning three of these seven games. Malmö defeated a tiny team from the Faroe Islands, Klaksvik, in the previous round of qualification. The aggregate was 6-4. They lost the second leg 2-3 at Við Djúpumýrar in front of only about 1250 spectators. Malmö were priced around 1.35 to win the game on the betting market – which was clearly too low! However, in reality, were too good at home, winning 4-1 as massive favourites, of course. Consequently, the matchup was more or less over after the 1st leg.. Malmö were priced around 1.05-1.07 to qualify by the bookies – before the first leg. Sure, Klaksvik shocked for example a pretty big Hungarian team, Ferencvaros, and Swedish Häcken last season - making it to the UEFA Europa Conference League group stage but I want to emphasize they were much better then than they are now. Ferencvaros did not seem to take this small team seriously (enough). Klaskvik were one of the biggest positive surprises in European football last season – deservedly getting a lot of media attention - even hype. I am sure many recreational bettors still remember this  - and consequently overvalue Klaksvik. At the moment they are only in 3rd place in the extremely low-level Faroe Islands Premier League – by European standards. Yes, Klaksvik do deserve praise for their results last season but I will still not give Malmö a lot of credit for beating "the islanders"..  The Swedes basically did what was expected from them.. However, conceding four goals against a team of Klaksvik's level is a bit worrying but many Malmö players were clearly fully committed to doing their best at Við Djúpumýrar - avoiding injuries, fatigue etc.

In their last game they Malmö Halmstad, currently in the 12th place in the Allsvenskan standings, 1-0 away from home. They were priced around 1.30 to win by the bookmakers. Yes, they deserved the three points but the out-of-form hosts still managed eight total shots. Malmö did generate more in xG though. It was not by any means a bad  - but still not an impressive performance from Malmö as a whole.. Before eliminating Klaksvik Malmö locked horns with Sirius – two times in a row! They first lost to Sirius at home!  It was a great 1-0 win from this relatively small team compared to Malmö. An impressive defensive performance from Sirius was the main reason for their victory. They were priced close to 10.00 to win on the betting market – which was definitely too high.. Sirius recorded fewer scoring chances than Malmö - which was expected - but still managed 143 attacks – a somewhat high number.. Malmö recorded 168. To be blunt, Malmö should not lose to teams of Sirius' level – especially at home – or Klaksvik even on the road - if they want to even seriously think about qualifying for the Champions League group stage. For the (new) fans not familiar with European football (yet) I want to mention that the Champions League is the highest of UEFA's three club competitions. In my expert opinion, Malmö should sweep past opponents of this caliber – perhaps even fully dominate them! Even if this were the case I would be rather surprised if they qualified for the group stage! They actually did do this, three years ago, but are undoubtedly not at the same level this season – not even close.. Moreover, Malmö had a lot of luck on their side in the Qualification back in 2022, for example against Glasgow Rangers.  In round 15 of Allsvenskan, on the 19th of last month, Malmö scored two pretty late goals at Studenternas IP – beating Sirius 4-3. However, allowing Sirius to net the ball three times is not a very good augury.. In fact, PAOK, too, could have scored more than two goals in the first leg.. Sirius resisted with vigour and - at least tried to  play perhaps even surprisingly active football - when given an opportunity to do so.. However, Malmö had simply had too much individual skill and offensive firepower in this match.. As a team Malmö did not impress me and were  for long periods during the 90 minutes – rather imbalanced on the pitch – by their standards I mean. Sure, they deserved the three points though as they generated more in expected xG. Both teams, however, managed four big  scoring chances. Let's also remember Malmö very rarely face opponents of PAOK's level and would need a lot of luck - or improve significantly from their previous 5-7 games to eliminate the Greeks! Yes, Malmö top the Allsvenskan standings with 41 points but have not been dominant this year. Djurgården, with one game less under their belt, are six points behind Malmö. The reigning champions of Sweden have scored 45 goals and allowed 16 in Allsvenskan. However, their number of expected goals (xG) is "only 41.34 - and their number of expected points (xPTS) is 37.18.
