I see Guinea with more potential here.

They’ll have a difficult group with USA and France, two very strong teams, but if they want to have chances to qualify this game is an absolute must win. I expect New Zealand to finish bottom in this group.

Guinea is coming from a good tournament in 2023 in the CAF U23, where they lost in semifinals. They are a very strong team physically, and have certainly the potential to cause some surprise.

In this game for me they are strong favorites, as they have a much better team. One of their most talented players is former Liverpool’s midfielder Naby Keita, not playing in Werder Bremen and with plenty of experience. They have also other players in strong european clubs, such as Ilaix Moriba (Getafe), Camara (Atalanta) or Toure (Le Havre). Overall almost all of their squad are playing in Europe, which means more quality and experience. Toure and Keita will be the key pieces of this team, bringing experience in the midfield.

New Zealand is for me the worst team in the tournament, alongside the Dominican Republic. They have had very poor preparation, with little experience in international tournaments and friendlies or preparation games played against very weak sides from Oceania.

They reached the quarter finals in Tokyo 2020, but here I expect them to finish bottom in the group. Majority of their squad is playing in local leagues, except their main players like Ben Waine (Plymouth Argyle), Joe Bell (Viking) or Tyler Bindon (Reading), among others.

It's true that many players from this squad have experience with the senior national team, but it's also true that the senior NT is a very weak side so it’s normal to see youngsters with experience there. For me the key players for New Zealand in this tournament will be midfielder Joe Bell and striker Ben Waine.

Guinea will also have a better adaptation to the hot temperatures in Paris, and physically are way stronger than New Zealand. In terms of quality, I see their squad and team one step above.

All factors in this game are in favour of Guinea. New Zealand will approach a defensive game and surely won’t be easy for Guinea, but they have more weapons to win this fixture.
