Pohang are in third place with a great 41 points in their pocket! They have a good chance of winning the championship. In terms of pure class Pohang are a top-2 team in this league in my expert opinion. They could be more effective offensively but have scored a strong 36 goals in this league. Their attacks are sometimes a bit slow and predictable but against the pretty leaky Daejeon defense I expect Pohang to generate at least close to 2.00 in expected goals (xG) here. Daejeon have allowed 33 goals – Pohang have conceded only 24 goals. The Pohang defence has a fine structure and the midfielders actively take part in defending – when needed. Their defence has no obvious weaknesses and they have allowed only 24 goals. Only Gimcheon Sangmu, the current leaders, have conceded less goals – 23 to be precise. I would not be at all surprised if the hosts failed to score here.. Their offense lacks speed, individual skill, creativity and passing accuracy at key moments. The structure is poor as well. They have netted the ball only 22 times which is the smallest number in this league!

In their last game Daejeon faced Gangwon at home and it was 1-1 draw. However, the visitors would have deserved all three points. They recorded more goal attempts, shots on goal, shots off target, corner kicks (7-1), attacks and especially dangerous attacks – 92-32 to be precise. Before this Daejeon faced Seoul, currently in 6th place, away from home and lost "only" 1-2. Seoul could easily have scored more goals than two though. Indeed, they recorded many more goal attempts (18-8), shots on goal (11-3), shots off goal, corner kicks, attacks and dangerous attacks – 66-30. It was a lame performance from Daejeon as a whole. In round 22 Daejeon took a point from Jeonbuk at home through a 2-2 draw. They had one more goal attempt than the visitors, both teams had three shots on goal and Jeonbuk managed many more attacks – 111-96. However, Jeonbuk played below their normal level in this game – Daejeon, on the other hand, showed good fighting spirit. This is something we have rarely seen this season.. I liked Pohang's offense – they proved that they have different strategies/formations to break the opponent's defence! Seoul, however, were, in all honesty, far from their best in this game.. It was a pretty disappointing performance from Pohang but they can play much better.. However, they do not even necessarily have to be at their best to beat the lowly Daejeon.. We must give Jeju a lot of credit for beating Pohang! They played above their normal level, boosted by their fans. In round 22 Pohang defeated Gangwon 2-0 at home despite being a little lame offensively.. However, we must remember that Gangwon are a dangerous team, currently in 4th place in the standings. Gangwon defended well, despite allowing two goals and also had more dangerous attacks. Both teams managed a  total of 71 dangerous attacks.
