Maribor welcome Botev Plodiv for this UEFA Europa League Qualification first round 2nd leg clash at Ljudski vrt in Maribor early Friday morning Beijing time. The Europa League is the second-highest of UEFA's club competitions. The stakes are big here as qualifying for the group stage would mean a lot for both teams and their players. A lot of UEFA prize money is at stake. The hosts are a Slovenian team, the visitors come from Bulgaria In my expert opinion the Bulgarian Parva Liga is – as a whole – of somewhat better than the Slovenia Prva Liga. The  Maribor players have an estimated market value of some 10 million. With the expected lineups the hosts are, however, the stronger team here – but not by a wide margin! The first leg last week was a balanced clash as a whole. Indeed, the ball possession was 50-50%. The hosts had two more goal attempts and both teams had the same number of shots on goal, shots off target and corner kicks. I witnessed nothing to justify odds of around 1.50-1.55 on the Maribor win here! They will, of course, have to win which means that they have to be active and take some risks here as Botev won the 1st leg 2-1.. Maribor needing to win lowers the probability of a draw and increases the probability of a home win. Even so, the hosts have an only 52% chance of winning in the 90 minutes of play. The obvious smart bet here is the Botev +1.5 goals handicap option! Odds of close to 1.50 are widely available. We have a 74% chance of winning - once again!

The hosts have won only one of their last four games, losing 2/4. However, only last week's game was a competitive game. Before losing to Botev, Maribor beat CSKA 1948 Sofia 2-1 at Beltinci Sports Park in Beltinci, a neutral location. This is something they are pretty good at!  Maribor, on the other hand, were, at times, a bit imbalanced on the pitch in the 1st leg.. Before beating Maribor Botev defeated A Bulgarian team, Krumovgrad, 2-0 at Nikola Shterev - Starika Sports Complex in Plovdiv 2-0. On the 2th of July Botev lost to Botev II in a pretty low-level game. Before this Botev took a fine 5-2 win at a neutral location 5-2! The opponent, Cherno More, finished in 3rd place in the Parva Liga last season. Before this Botev beat Beroe, a pretty dangerous team, 1-0 at a neutral location. Four of their last five games have been friendly games..
