For me Uruguay is favorite here. Uruguay have not put a single foot wrong ahead of this showdown, while Brazil have struggled to score and will be without Vinicius Junior for this contest.

They are coming in great form and have been the best team in the Copa America so far in my opinion, scoring 9 goals in 3 games and conceding only 1 (at 95’ when they were already 3:0 up against Panama).

They are getting goals from all angles, including their leading talisman Darwin Nunez who has now scored 10 goals over his last eight matches for his country. Bielsa managed to build an amazing team, playing with a lot of intensity, a very competitive team, and with the ability to generate chances with several variants: set pieces, from the wings, open play between the lines… They know perfectly what the plan is and how to execute it.

But on the other hand, Brazil is coming with many doubts and far from their best level. They qualified in the group with many questions to be solved for me: drew against Costa Rica (one of the worst teams in the tournament), won Paraguay but was more Paraguay’s fault due to their mistakes than Brazil’s merits, whilst then drew against Colombia playing a bad second half.

Brazil has some moments in the games, but I have not seen them impressive in a full fixture for a while. They are winning games and are a strong team due to their individual quality, but as a team are not performing well. Furthermore, several of their key players are in bad form: Vinicius Jr, Rodrygo, Endrick, Raphinha… And to make things even worse: their best player and one of the best in the world this season - Vinicius will miss this fixture due to a suspension. He has the ability to create a goal or a chance from anywhere, regardless of his current form, so Brazil will struggle here. Especially because Brazil is lacking goals lately.

The absence of Vinicius Junior — their best player in all three games so far — is going to severely affect their chances. And given how stout Uruguay has been defensively, Brazil will struggle a lot here.

We can’t forget also that Brazil is without Neymar, another player who although is out of form, is a game-changer.

If we look at the recent form from both teams, the lack of goals by Brazil and Vini Jr’s absence, Uruguay is clearly the favorite here. As a team, they are undoubtedly above Brazil. In terms of quality, given the poor form of several Brazilian players, I see them at least at the same level in all lines.

If we look at just the body of work for both teams, I believe Uruguay are the more complete team. They are cohesive and playing for the collective whereas Brazil seems a disjointed side playing for individual accolades.

Uruguay already won 2:0 in the World Cup Qualifiers in October, when they were even in worse form than they are now and where Brazil didn’t make a single shot on target.
