Next to him in defense will be Vertonghen, who is playing really well this tournament, but he is already 37 years old and the question is how well he can match the fast attackers of France. In the group stage, Belgium left perhaps the worst impression of all the teams that advanced to this stage of the competition. After the opening defeat against Slovakia, they played a good match against Romania and won 2-0, and the last match against Ukraine was perhaps their worst so far. It was more than obvious that they wanted to win a point in that match and they played without too many ideas in attack and too cowardly. However, the end justifies the means and they, as runners-up, found themselves in the elimination phase. What worries Belgium fans is that their best players like De Bruyne and Lukaku are not playing anywhere near their potential. Lukaku missed a huge number of potential goalscoring chances, and De Bruyne simply does not have the support of his teammates, as is the case at Manchester City.
