Mexico is in a very difficult situation and I see this very difficult for them to revert. They are not in their best moment, with poor results recently, lacking quality and without too many perspectives, and now need a victory to qualify.

They are in a generational change, as left out of the squad some veterans and experienced players (Ochoa, Hirving Lozano, Raul Jimenez), replacing them by some young promises. Coach Lozano is under big pressure and surely if they don’t win this fixture (which is the result they need to qualify) will be fired.

Although the tournament is played in the USA, Mexico is playing at home. In the United States there are a lot of Mexicans so Mexico will be the team (alongside USA of course) with more fans support in this Copa America.

They struggled to beat Jamaica (one of the worst teams in the tournament). Then against Venezuela (another very weak side) suffered a very unlucky defeat: although Mexico generated 2.99 expected goals (and Venezuela 1.09), Venezuela won 1:0. And the worst thing - Pineda missed a penalty at 87’ which could have been the equalizer.

Mexico showed a problem there - created many chances, but didn’t convert them. Their best player is the striker Santiago Gimenez, who made a great season with Feyenoord scoring 23 goals. However, he has been terrible in both games so far, and was subbed off at 60’ (even when the result was 0:0 against Jamaica).

Furthermore, their captain Edson Alvarez suffered an injury in the first round and will miss the rest of the tournament, which is a big absence for Mexico.

Now they’ll have a lot of pressure as this is a final for them. They need to win and will struggle to do that, because Ecuador is a strong team, with experienced players and difficult to beat, and surely will manage the situation much better.

They lost the opening round 1:2 against Venezuela due to a stupid red card forced by Valencia. However, they made a good game, scored one goal and was leading the fixture till 64’ when Venezuela scored 2 goals in 10 minutes. Then in the second game they made a convincing victory 3:1 against Jamaica.

Sarmiento and Paez have been fantastic in both games, but they also have more good players with plenty of experience in big clubs in Europe, such as Caicedo, Hincapie or Pacho.

I’m expecting a draw here. Mexico will struggle to score goals: they have scored just one goal in two games so far, which was against Jamaica who is one of the worst teams in the tournament. Ecuador will control the tempo and make a slow-paced game, increasing the pressure on Mexico who honestly I see below Ecuador in terms of quality. Also with a draw Ecuador would be qualified, so they'll play for that.
