I expect a great performance by Colombia in this tournament and should win this fixture easily.

Colombia is coming with very good preparation, in great form with 8 victories in a row, probably the most in-form team in the whole Copa America. Among those victories we can find very strong teams such as Spain (0:1) in a friendly or Brazil (2:1) in the World Cup qualifiers. They are unbeaten since February 2022 against Argentina, and the unbeaten run is 23 games and more than 2 years!

Coach Lorenzo gave a lot of confidence to the team, changed the mentality and are very well prepared to be the surprise of this tournament. In the World Cup Qualifiers are 3rd and the only team unbeaten. Neither Uruguay or Brazil managed to beat them.

Furthermore, have a lot of quality in their squad. Their leader is Liverpool’s winger Luis Diaz, but also have other players in the Premier League such as Jefferson Lerma, Daniel Muñon or the young promise Jhon Duran. Colombia has a lot of quality upfront and will be very difficult for Paraguay to stop them.

Paraguay is a very weak side, terrible in all lines in my opinion: defense, midfield and attack. They were horrible in the recent friendlies, and are lacking a lot of quality and goal upfront. In the last 9 games they have scored just 2 goals, and some of them were against weak teams like Peru or Venezuela.

Are a very defensive team but they didn’t defend well against strong teams. Against Argentina lost only 1:0 but had less than 30% possession and made only 1 shot on target (0.10 expected goals), whilst conceded 17 shots and many chances, and goalkeeper Carlos Coronel was their best player.

Both teams also played a match in the WC 2026 Qualifiers in November, where Colombia dominated the game generating 2.30 expected goals and one more time, best Paraguay's player in that game was a defender - CB Gustavo Gomez in this case. Colombia won 0:1 but should have scored more goals.

Their plan for this fixture will be very simple, the same as always against better teams: defend deep and try to get a chance in some counter. Their key players for this matter will be wingers Miguel Almirón and Ramon Sosa, as well as offensive midfielder Julio Enciso.

It will be a tight game, probably without too many goals. But Colombia has much more quality, especially upfront, and will dominate the game. I see Colombia way more stronger than Paraguay in this tournament and I expect to see them controlling and winning this game, as did just a few months ago.
