A draw is very possible here.

Spain is coming from a very strong performance against Croatia, where I believe we saw a mix of two things: Spain overperforming and being very effective, and Croatia underperforming and totally unrecognizable.

But I still believe that Spain doesn’t have such a strong team to be among the favorites or title contenders. Lamine Yamal made a great game and showed his quality with only 16 years old, but I still see many doubts in this team. They conceded pretty much in defense (indeed Croatia missed a penalty) and it’s normal: Cucurella is reserve in Chelsea, Le Normand had a bad season and Nacho isn’t a top defender. Only Carvajal is at a good level.

The midfield is the key to dominate the games, but best player Rodri looks exhausted, whilst Fabian and Pedri aren’t at their best level. Dani Olmo could play in the find instead of Nico Williams, but the key will be Lamine Yamal again and the effectiveness or Alvaro Morata, who has been terrible this season with Atletico.

On the other hand Italy struggled to beat Albania, conceding a goal in the first minute. However, they improved a lot during the game and showed good quality, with one name for each position: Calafiori in defense, Barella in the midfield and Chiesa upfront.

The wings will be the key as it’s where Spain has more danger, so Dimarco and Di Lorenzo need to make a good game and keep Yamal and Williams/Olmo quiet. Italy still has a solid defence, I’d even say that it’s their strong point, whilst upfront they also have good names who made a great season like Scamacca or Chiesa.

The midfield battle will be also an important factor in this fixture, and Barella will need to be at his best level to compete with Rodri.

I see this game as a very tight one. A defeat could be terrible for both sides, whilst a draw could be a good deal to stay in the TOP2 and almost assure the qualification. I believe that Spain’s game against Croatia was a mirage, as they didn't have that level to beat Croatia 3:0. Indeed conceded many chances and were lucky keeping the goal to nil.

I believe that Italy will have chances to score, and I still want to see a good performance by Scamacca who has been at a very high level with Atalanta this season, so I expect him to be motivated and dangerous here. At the back, Italy has a very solid defense and Spain needs to be very effective one more time if they want to win, as they won't have too many chances. And as said, effectiveness has been something that we have not seen in Spain for a while.
