In the bigger European countries where football is the main and only sport the league pyramid is a lot more flat than in Finland, but the class difference within the pyramid in Finland is so steep that surprises really are surprises. In practice the team from the lower league "never" wins.

KTP are a team who go up and go down regularly from the Premier League, this time they are again in the 2nd tier, but as they have collected 28 points from their 11 games they are already close to promotion, with a 6 point gap to the runner-up TPS. So in theory, they are class-wise again almost as good as the bottom teams in the Premier League, Veikkausliiga.

Inter Turku were among the favourites for the league, but they have failed so far and everyone is looking at coach Vesa Vasara. Also the chosen goalkeepers have raised a lot of questions because of their inexperience.

The form of Inter Turku does not look good at first glance as they have lost 3 of last 5 and won only two, but it should be noted that the losses are against the absolute top teams of the league, twice v Ilves, once v VPS. On the other hand both Haka and Lahti are for sure better teams than KTP are.

There is extra incentive to win this, as we already know who the opponent is in the quarterfinals. It will be the winner of GrIFK v MuSA, and they both come from even lower level and the path to semifinals is extremely easy.
