I expect Hungary to make the surprise here by beating Switzerland.

Hungary is a team with chances to be an outsider here. Have quality, an experienced italian coach with Marco Rossi and have been the whole 2023 without losing a single game. In 2022 we must remember that they beat England 0:4 at home, and made a great Nations League finishing above England and Germany in 2022. In the EURO qualifiers they managed to qualify as leaders in the group and unbeaten, so they are coming with confidence to this tournament.

I see them as a very dangerous team, with a lot of talent. Their best player is of course Dominic Szoboszlai, and Hungary needs him to be at their best to have chances. The key for them will be to find the way to combine between midfielders Nagy and Styles and Szoboszlai upfront.

They’ll play with 3 defenders but will be an offensive team, as they always look upfront and generate chances. Hungary just finished a game scoreless one time in the last 16 games.

On the other hand, Switzerland is also a very competitive team with a lot of quality, but I don’t expect an easy game for them. Their key player will be of course Xhaka, who made a fantastic season with Bayer Leverkusen and is a key player for Switzerland to receive the ball near to the defense under pressure, or also give the last pass. Goalkeeper Sommer also made a great season with Inter, being one of the teams with less goals conceded in the major european leagues.

However the physical aspect I think could be a disadvantage for Switzerland, who has some veterans like Shaqiri who could struggle with Hungarian pace.

Switzerland struggled a lot to qualify, finishing 2nd 5 points below Romania. In their last 11 games they have won just three: Estonia, Ireland and Andorra, all very weak national teams; so they are not coming in the best form to this tournament.

They are also lacking a reliable topscorer, so could struggle to score goals here. Their options are Burnley striker Amdouni who has scored just 5 goals in 34 games this season, or Okafor from AC Milan who scored just 6 in 28 games.

This Hungary team might not have as many household names as Switzerland, but they operate as more than the sum of their parts. This is a strong team who are exceptionally well-drilled and tactically smart.

I expect Hungary to have their chances to win this fixture, as I can’t see them as underdogs as the odds are showing us. I see them with better form, more confidence, and an advantage in the physical aspect. In terms of quality, it’s 50-50 for me.
