HAUGESUND - BODO GLIMT

I really like this pick. Bodo/Glimt is coming on a bad run and I don’t see them wasting more games without a victory.

Haugesund is a mid-table team whose target is just to avoid relegation, as they have one of the worst squads in the league. They aren’t either a strong home team, and this season started well with 13 points and a balance of 4/1/5.

However, they have been outplayed in the only games played against top teams so far: lost 2:1 against Molde (at 10’ they were already 2:0 down, so Molde controlled the rest of the game) and 1:3 against Rosenborg, where guests also missed a penalty. Furthermore, I rate Bodo/Glimt as a better team than Molde and Rosenborg (and indeed they beat Rosenborg 1:3 and drew 1:1 against Molde).The rest of rivals so far have been mid-table or relegation teams.

Haugesund is a difficult team to predict as they lack consistency. It’s very strange to see them winning two games in a row, whilst they are also a usual team to see winless in 5-6 rounds. But they are a competitive team against relegation rivals, as did last season winning three key games in a row at the end of the campaign against relegation rivals.

With only 10 goals in 10 rounds so far have the worst attack in the league, whilst they managed to keep the goal to nil only two times: worst squad in the league Kristiansund (1:0) and a very lucky game against Tromso (0:1) where conceded 1.76 expected goals and 16 shots.

The main reason for their inconsistency is the young squad they have, lacking experience. They have several starters which are below 20 years old, such as defender Hope Mikkel (19yo), midfielder Sauer Mathias (20yo), or strikers Innavaer Sanger (19yo) and Nyhammer Troy (17yo), who is suspended for this fixture. Their best player is goalkeeper Egil Selvik.

On the other hand, Bodo/Glimt is the best team in the league. Are the current Champions, the main title contenders, and have the best squad in the Eliteserien by big difference: their value is 40MM Euros, whilst Molde (2nd best squad) is 25MM Euros. Haugesund’ value is 8MM Euros. They have won 3 of the last 4 leagues, have a large squad to compete in Europe as well, and surely will be in top positions this season again.

They have some of the best players in the league, such as current league’s topscorer Albert Gronbaek or Patrick Berg. Gronbaek is also in great form with amazing performances recently and 6 goals scored in his last 5 games. For me at the best is the best player in the league.

They have made a solid start of the campaign: the highest scoring team (24 goals in 11 rounds), the best defense (8 conceded) and leaders with 24 points in 11 rounds (7/3/1). And the reason why I like this bet is because they are coming from three consecutive games without a win, a very strange run for a strong team like Bodo/Glimt.

The last time they were 4 games without a win in the Eliteserien was in 2019, when they weren’t as strong as they are now in Norway.

It looks like Bodo/Glimt needs the summer break to recover energy and clean their minds. However, they have a lot of quality and surely will find a way to win this fixture, although it won't be easy. Quality difference is huge here and I see Bodo/Glimt making a strong performance to finish their winless run and continue at the top of the table. Last season they beat Haugesund 2:1 and 1:3.

KALMAR - VASTERAS

Very tight game but I see Kalmar favorite.

Both teams are in bad form but Kalmar has much more quality and experience to win this fixture and leave out the relegation zone. However, Vasteras is a newly promoted side who has the worst squad in the league and have won just 5 points in 11 games.

Kalmar is in just one above the bottom, but have quality and some positive notes. Against Halsmtad made a good performance and have won 7 of the 10 total points they have in the last 5 rounds, including two very difficult away fixtures against Malmo and Hacken.

Furthermore, their attack works well. In spite of their position, they have the 8th best attack in the league, whilst the 7 teams with more goals scored are in the TOP8 in the table. Their defense is their weak point, but I don’t see this as a problem as they will play against the worst attack of the league.

They have great players upfront, such as Danish winger Jacob Trenskow who is in great form with 4 goals and 5 assists. Second topscorer Skrabb is back from suspension.

On the other hand, Varnamo is a newly promoted team, has the worst squad and are almost relegated although we are still in the 11th round. They are 9 points below the safe zone, and with only 1 victory and 4 goals scored so far looks very difficult to think that they could start winning games.

They are not so bad in defense but their attack is terrible, without quality and any reliable scorer. They have wasted many chances due to the lack of quality, whilst are also a very defensive team.

Kalmar shouldn’t be in the relegation zone and in their current position, as they have a good squad to be at least in the top half of the table. They are coming from a huge defeat 5:0 against Malmo so I expect them to play motivated here at home. Varnamo is just too weak and have a terrible attack, so I expect them to finish this game goalless. The question is if Kalmar will be able to break their solid defense, but I believe they’ll do it as they have good strikers and quality upfront.
