For Atalanta it has been a difficult week, but it can’t alter the fact that they have made a great campaign. For me they were favorites in the Cup against Juventus, but lost 0:1 and weren’t able to show their best football. However, they continued the week beating Lecce 0:2 in the Serie A, securing their UCL spot for the next season which is a big success for them.

This will surely help Atalanta to raise their morale, as regardless the result in this fixture will play in the UCL next year. Furthermore, in the game against Juventus they missed their topscorer Scamacca, who was suspended. He is available for this fixture and surely will be the main threat upfront for this team.

Scamacca scored 6 goals in 10 UEL games, including a brilliant performance with 2 goals against Liverpool (0:3), one goal in each leg against Sporting CP, and also another brilliant performance with a goal in the first leg against Marseille in the semi-finals. Furthermore, in the weekend against Lecce he made one of the best performances of the season with one goal and one assist in 5 minutes, so he is full of confidence.

Upfront, Scamacca will be helped by De Ketelaere and Koopmeiners, who will be the key in this fixture as they need to do it better as they did against Juventus.

I was impressed because also in many games they were losing, but it has been crazy the amount of late goals that this team has scored. This shows an amazing competitive spirit, fighting till the last minute and that’s why they are the favorites to win this title according to the bookmakers: their current form and confidence is high.

Like Atalanta, Bayer Leverkusen is a team who gives lot of importance to the wingers, playing with a 3-4-2-1 system with several players in peak form: winger Grimaldo (12 goals and 19 assists this season), Frimpong who is a really fast player, and of course Florian Wirtz, who has a great long shoot and gives lot of assists to striker Boniface.

However, I have seen Bayer Leverkusen very vulnerable in defense this season. It’s an easy team to score, and I believe that they were lucky in many games during this amazing unbeaten run. In previous rounds Roma, Qarabag and West Ham managed to create a lot of chances (and also scored goals), so I’m pretty sure that we’ll see some goals by Atalanta here as well.

Atalanta is a team who plays better as underdogs, and this will be a very physical game where they could stick to their plan. The Italians have enough quality to at least avoid the defeat in the regular team, as I believe that this is a total 50-50 game.
