Torino is in great form, and although it’s not been an impressive season for them by any stretch of the imagination, they could still land a berth in the playoff round of the Europa Conference League. Thanks to the Italian sides’ stellar runs on the continental front, Ivan Juric could still guide Granata to Europe’s third-tier competition in his swansong season in Turin.

They have Fiorentina (8th) 3 points above, but “La Viola” has a difficult game with Napoli (who is 9th) and also Atalanta in the last round, whilst could be also distracted as they’ll play the Conference League final in a couple of weeks.

Torino also has a difficult schedule with AC Milan and Atalanta, but I see them with chances to achieve points. Especially because are in a great moment. They have lost just two of the last 10 Serie A games: leaders inter Milan and an unlucky game against Empoli (3:2), where they deserved to win, dominating the whole game, generating plenty of chances and conceding a late goal at 96’.

Torin has been a difficult team to beat this season, thanks to their solid defense who has conceded just 32 goals, 11 less than AC Milan and with only Inter, Bologna and Juventus with a better record. Defender Bellanova has been a positive surprise for me in their first session with Torino (but plenty of experience in the Serie A), being very regular and with solid performances at the back.

At home they have lost just 2 games in the whole season: Lazio and Inter. And the one against Lazio (0:2) was also unlucky and undeserved, as they generated a lot of chances (1.52 expected goals, 24 shots) whilst conceded just 0.48 expected goals and 7 shots.

They have a debt to pay to their fans after denying them entertainment during that barren run, with 4 of the last 5 games finishing 0-0. Another ideal outcome is a distinct possibility, considering their last two home matches against Serie A top-four sides finished goalless (Juventus and Bologna)

On the other hand, for AC Milan the season is over. Sitting 2nd in the table, we can’t agree that has been a successful season: they have not been able to maintain Inter’s level, and didn’t reach the finals in any of the other competitions (Coppa, Europa League). This means that most probably coach Stefano Pioli won’t continue as head coach for the next season, and even in the italian news are rumors of his replacement (Lopetegui).

They are in very poor form at the moment, with just one victory (which was last weekend against Cagliari 5:1) in their last 7 games. Defender Matteo Gabbia is injured, and Simon Kjaer is doubtful. Loftus-Cheek will also miss the game due to an injury.

I expect a tight game and a low-scoring match. Despite boasting the division’s second-best attacking record behind Inter, Milan could find it difficult to break down Torino’s sturdy defense. I see a draw as a very possible result here, and it won’t be easy for Milan. Torino is like a rock at home and are way more motivated in this fixture.
