PSG is very close to play another final and reach their desired UCL title.

Borussia Dortmund have been overperforming a lot in this tournament in my opinion. Their season in the Bundesliga have been terrible, sitting 5th and almost without chances for the TOP4 (Champions League).

In the previous round they were totally outplayed by Atletico Madrid, but managed to survive in the first game and the Signal Iduna Park did the rest of the job in the second leg. This is always very difficult to visit and play in the UCL, but I see PSG ready for that.

Borussia Dortmund have some strengths but also some important weak points that PSG need to capitalize. Of course their strengths are the experience in defense with Schlotterbeck/Hummels (although they made a huge mistake against Atletico), their mental strength, Marcel Sabitzer who is their best player at the moment, and goalkeeper Gregorio Kobel who has been great in the UCL so far, especially in the game against Newcastle where made a lot of impressive saves.

However, Borussia has been living on the edge during the whole tournament. In the group stage were pretty lucky, as well as against Atletico Madrid where Morata missed a 1vs1 chance with the goalkeeper in the first minutes which could have totally changed the match in Dortmund.

I see Dortmund as physically stronger but also have several weaknesses that PSG can exploit. Mainly, their defenders are very slow. Way slower than Barcelona’s ones, where PSG struggled to break their pace. And in this first game at home, I expect Borussia to play motivated and attack, leaving spaces for PSG.

PSG is coming to this game with a draw in the weekend playing with reserves, as they rested all key players, and winning the title. That means coming into this game you have a Dortmund team who would be deflated after a heavy defeat going up against a PSG side who are fresh from an injury-time goal that sealed another league title. That’s a huge difference in morale and it’s one of the things that will give PSG the edge in this game.

The other aspect is that PSG managed to rest players and what that means for their freshness.

Mbappe looks motivated to win the UCL title with their hometown club before leaving in summer, and also Dembele is having great performances in this tournament. I expect both of them to exploit Borussia’s slow defenders and spaces, killing the game at counters as are unstoppable.

Both teams played in the group stage. The first game was in Dortmund with the spoils split 1-1. However, it was a game that PSG controlled with 60% possession and 18 shots to Dortmund’s 16. Then in the second game in Paris, it was a 2-0 win for the home side, with Dortmund getting just one of their 14 shots on target and having just 31% possession.

Those previous games have shown us that PSG is the superior of the two teams and that they’re likely to dominate possession again and create more opportunities. I expect an open game with chances for both teams, but I see PSG with much more quality to exploit those spaces and chances, especially with a better performance from Mbappe and also helped by the great form of Dembele.
