Indeed, they completely understandably put much more resources in the big leagues, like the English Premier League and the German Bundesliga.. Sligo currently occupy the 7th  place in the league table with a decent 14 points to their account. However, their number of expected points (xPTS) is slightly lower. They have netted the ball a strong 12 times but their number of expected goals (xG) is lower though. They have definitely been more creative and especially effective offensively than I would have expected before the season started. Last season they ended up in 8th place in this league with a total of 10 clubs. Drogheda, on the other hand, have been lame this this season. This does not surprise me at all. I rated them lower than most of the bookies in my extensive preseason analysis. They have a pathetic eight points in their pocket. Moreover, they have won only one game in this league this season. They lack quality in all areas of the game. They have scored only nine goals and have conceded 15 goals. The 15 goals allowed is the second-highest number in this league.

According to the well-known and respected German website, Transfermarkt.com, Drogheda are an extremely small club for this level.. Indeed, their players have an estimated total market value of only 900 000 euros! This is a little too low though. The Sligo Rovers squad, on the other hand, is valued at close to three million euros! The bookies have made yet another mistake with their odds, offering Drogheda odds of only about 2.30 on the home win! With the expected lineups, based on my strongly data-based analysis, Sligo deserve to be the moderate favourites here. We will take the +0.5 goals handicap option! Drogheda have failed to win any of their last seven games and are clearly low in confidence at the moment. In their last game they played okay on the road against Bohemians. However, the hosts deserved the narrow 1-0 win in the end. A draw would not have been justified either though.. Before this they locked horns with Derry City at home and it was a 2-2 draw. Derry, however, would have deserved a win as they had 62% ball possession and recorded more goal attempts, shots off goal, corner kicks (5-1) and especially dangerous attacks – 72-44 to be precise. Sligo have not been in great form recently either. In their last game they faced Galway, a dangerous team, at home and it was a goalless draw. Sligo were solid underdogs in this game on the betting market, priced around 3.50 to win at the time of kickoff. It was a pretty balanced clash as a whole. Sligo had a whopping 68% ball possession but the visitors recorded two more goal attempts.. Sligo had many more attacks though – 121-91. Before this Sligo faced Dundalk at home as solid favourites – priced around 2.10 to win by the bookies. The final score was 1-1. Sligo recorded one more shot on goal, many more goal attempts (19-13), corner kicks, attacks and dangerous attacks than the visitors. They also had 56% ball possession. I was still not quite happy with Sligo's performance – they can do better. However, I want to mention that Dundalk are the rock-bottom team at the moment but by pure class they are not nearly as bad is the standings would suggest! Before the Dundalk game Shamrock Rovers took win over Sligo 3-0 at home. However, Sligo were not without scoring chances in this game and the final score flatters Shamrock. Sligo even recorded a pretty high number of attacks - 86 to be precise.
