Real Madrid has at the moment 8 points advantage, which means that a victory here could make the difference up to 11 with only 6 games remaining to play. But if Barcelona wins, the difference will be 5 points and will add more interest to the title race in the last round. However, I see guests able to avoid defeat here.

Real Madrid is coming from an amazing game at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday, which was one of the most difficult and most demanding games in recent years. They were 120 minutes defending, running behind the ball, with only 36% possession and were physically very intense as they had to keep the concentration for a long period. Carvajal and Vinicius had to be subbed off due to some physical issues during the game.

However, they managed to win in penalties and qualify, beating Man City, which gave them a huge boost of motivation and made them forget the tiredness.

Coach Ancelotti will make some changes in the lineup. Tchouameni, who was suspended in the UCL, will play to give some rest to Nacho as CB, whilst also Lucas and Modric could play replacing Carvajal and Camavinga.

Given the fatigue and situation in the league, I expect Madrid to play a slow-paced game, controlling the tempo. A draw would be a great result for them, keeping the distance up to 8 points plus the goal average (as they won the previous game 1:2).

On the other hand, for Barcelona the season is almost over. This could be their last success in the Xavi era, and I expect them to play with high motivation for that. As you may know, Xavi announced that will leave the club when the season ends, and at the moment they can only fight for the La Liga title which is very difficult.

They had a difficult game in the midweek against PSG, losing 1:4 in a game which surely affected them, as was conditioned by the red card received at 30’ when they were leading 1:0 in the game and 2:4 in the leg. However, they couldn’t manage the situation with 10 players and conceded many chances, 4 goals and were eliminated from the Champions League one more year.

They’ll have less fatigue than Madrid, as they had one more day to rest. Also played at home, whilst Madrid played in Manchester.

The victory here is mandatory for them to at least continue in the title race, and not have the season over with still 6 rounds remaining to play. They lost all the titles played this season, including the Supercup where they lost 1:4 against Real Madrid as well, so I expect them to be very motivated here in their last chance to give a good performance and give joy to their fans. Winning a Clasico is always a big boost for the fans and the clubs.

The truth is that Barcelona is at the moment in their best period of the season. They have been playing well lately in both areas, finding the balance and with some players in great form such as Rapinha or Pedri, whose back has been very positive for Barcelona. Before PSG’s defeat they were in a 6 consecutive games winning run, including a great performance against Atletico Madrid where they won 0:3.

In a game like this one I think that fatigue and motivation could be the key, and in both things Barcelona has the advantage.
