Norrkoping - GAIS

Norrkoping, who has a good squad to be in the top half of the table, have had a terrible start of the season: lost 1:5 against Malmo and 3:1 against Mjallby. It is true that both teams are strong and will be in top positions, but they have not been competitive at all. In the game against Mjallby they conceded 4.64 xG and the match was closer to a 5:0 than the final result (3:1).

Norrkoping had problems with injuries and suspensions, and they have not been able to make a decent lineup yet. Furthermore, although they have individual quality, it looks like they are not playing like a team still.

Norrkoping needs to react here, also because a new manager will be under pressure. They can’t afford any other result than a solid home win against a newly promoted team and the worst squad in the league, especially after their previous results and performances.

Norrkoping has a good squad and I’m sure they’ll improve. Have solid defenders with Anton Eriksson, and upfront have quality with captain Christopher Nyman. It’s just a matter of time to find a way to be more competitive and improve, and I’m sure that this game is a good opportunity for that.

Because GAIS is a terrible team. They are newly promoted, are playing in the Allsvenskan for first time since 2012, and were a bit lucky being promoted last season.

They made very few transfers and have the worst squad in the league. Individually it is the most limited in terms of quality, and their value is the lowest in the Allsvenskan, with less than half as Norrkoping for example.

They started the season with a solid defeat 0:4 against Brommapojkarna, but then achieved a victory against Varnamo 1:2. However, they were helped by the fact that the game was moved from Varnamo’s stadium with real grass to a plastic turf due to heavy snowfall. The new stadium was also smaller. It was a solid game for GAIS especially as they were really poor against Brommapojkarna on match day one.

GAIS is an offensive team who uses a lot of players to attack, leaving spaces at the back. I expect them to do the same and attack from the first minute, giving us an open and funny game to watch. In this situation, Norrkoping has much more quality upfront to score more goals. They have much better players and should be able to score at least a couple of goals here.

Norrkping needs a confidence boost, and they should be able to beat GAIS if they can put the visitors under pressure.

VIKING - BRANN

Very equal game here but I see hosts favorites.

Viking have started the season winning Sarpsborg (1:0) and losing against the best team in the league - Bodo/Glimt. However, in that game they played very well and were close to achieve a draw, but the hosts scored a goal at 84’. But it was a good performance by Viking.

Viking has a good squad, they should be in the TOP5 this season again, fighting for the Conference League positions. It looks like this season they’ll be more defensive, which is normal as last season conceded 48 goals in 30 games and was the worst defense in the top7. I noted in the first two games that there has been a clear coaching effort made to improve the stability of the team.

Last season they won a lot of games thanks to their quality upfront: scored 61 goals which means the second best attack of the league. And although they kept the topscorer (Tripic and Lars Salvesen) for this season, if they close the door at the back and keep the offensive strength, they could be fighting for more ambitious targets.

On the other hand, Brann is also a strong team. They finished 2nd last season, three points above Viking. Have a good squad and in terms of quality, it’s at the same level.

They started the season with a solid victory 2:4 against Tromso but then suffered a shocking defeat 0:2 against newly promoted Fredrikstad. In that game they couldn't find the way to break the solid defensive system used by guests, and neither to control the counters.

Brann will have problems against teams who sit deep and defend strongly and that could be a problem again here, because Viking is using a more defensive style this season, and are doing it very well.

Their best player (and one of the best midfielders in the Eliteserien) Felix Horn Myhre is injured and will miss this match.

Both teams are big rivals and Viking have an amazing recent record vs Brann: they won 7 of the last 8 games, including both fixtures last season (3:1 and 0:2). With home advantage and an improved defence I think they can get the victory again.

Norrkoping - GAIS
