Both teams are at the same level. Both are from the top half of the table, who should finish the season with similar points. Last year Kalmar finished 6th with 45 and Sirius 8th with 42. Also both teams have a similar squad value (10.7MM Euros for Sirius, 9.5 for Kalmar).

Kalmar has started the season with a solid defeat 3:1 against Hammarby. Previously in the Cup finished 3rd in their group, below AIK (who reached 1 ⁄ 2 finals) and Orebro, from the Superettan (2nd division) where lost 1:0.

This summer they have lost their main striker and best player Mileta Rajovic, who went to Watford. He scored 7 goals in 20 games last season. Their topscorer with 9 goals in 30 games (Deniz Hummet) was signed by Djurgardens, and they just kept their other striker and topscorer Simon Skrabb who scored 9 and will be one of their main stars this season.

Undoubtedly, Kalmar has lost quality this season without Hummet, Rajovic and Friedrich. All of their transfers have been for free or loans.

They use to be strong at home, so will have all the pressure in this first home game to win. Their preseason has been problematic, as due to weather issues they had to train in artificial pitch and even athletic tracks. But for this fixture they can play already at their stadium with hybrid grass.

On the other hand, Sirius is a very similar team. They started the season very well with a solid victory 3:0 against Halmstad, a mid-table team. They generated many chances, were effective, and achieved a goal to nil without conceding many chances. Is not to score 3 goals to a good defensive team like Halmstad.

During 2023 they already made a good campaign with several good performances and some unlucky results. Finished the season very strong with 7 victories in the last 8 rounds, which was followed by the mentioned victory 3:0 in the first round of this new campaign.

Captain Daniel Stensson said that the target of the team is to be in the TOP8, as they have potential to do that.

During the last season they had several players in good form and scoring goals. They lost Abou Ali and Matthews, but kept Persson in the squad. Also signed three strikers to replace them, so I don’t see this team with less quality, as opposed to Kalmar.

During the preseason, they were unlucky in the Cup, as they finished with the same points as Norrkoping but didn’t qualify due to the goal difference.

Both teams are at the same level, have the same quality but Sirius have more confidence thanks to their results at the end of the last season and in the first round of this new campaign. Last season Sirius won 3:0 at home, whilst the previous three games between both teams finished with a draw.
