Yokohama Marinos, who finished 2nd last season, have started this campaign with 2 wins and 2 defeats, including their last fixture against Nagoya.

They are playing well, but are being unlucky with referees and also had to deal with the AFC Champions League, where qualified to 1 ⁄ 2 finals. I think that their participation in that tournament and the qualification to the latter stages are making them lose a bit of their concentration in the league.

They have a good squad, keeping good players from last season such as topscorer Anderson Lopes or Elber. Anderson has scored 3 goals in 4 games already.

On the other hand, Kawasaki Frontale had a terrible campaign last season. The winners in 2017, 2018, 2020 and 2021 (and runners-up in 2022) finished 8th last year, but the season was good thanks to the victory in the Japanese Cup, which gave them access to the AFC Champions League. However, they are already eliminated from that tournament after their defeat against Shandong, so are fully focused in the J1 League. This year they have won the Supercup as well, against Vissel Kobe.

They suffered three defeats in a row, the majority of them very unlucky (goals disallowed by VAR, late goals, chances missed…). However, they are coming to this game with confidence after their huge victory 3:0 against Tokyo, which gave them confidence.

They played nice football, with good passing and showing a huge improvement in comparison to their previous games.

Kawasaki is playing very well, has a lot of quality and a good squad, with some good transfers such as Brazilian striker Erison who has scored 5 goals in 5 games already.

Both teams are playing nice football and have a lot of quality and potential. However, I have seen a huge improvement by Kawasaki in their last game, whilst Yokohama still has to deal with the AFC Champions League.

I believe this will be an open game with chances and probably goals for both teams, but in any case I can't see hosts favorites. Kawasaki has an incredible ability to score goals, they have scored 10 in 5 games and have the best attack of the league so far. It’s the same as last season where they scored 51 in 34 rounds and finished having the 3rd best attack in the league, in spite of their 8th position in the table.

In a game which looks to be open, offensive and with chances, the team with the best attack is the one who has the advantage. And here it’s Kawasaki who has more quality upfront.
