Yokohama and Thespa Gunma lock horns in this Japanese J2 League round 5 battle at MNHK Spring Mitsuzawa Football Stadium Wednesday afternoon Beijing time. The level of this league is somewhat mediocre by global standards - for a second tier I mean. My fans and I can expect a match of rather mediocre quality by this league's standards here. The Thespa Gunma squad is valued at about six million. This is too low as well – some 7.5 million would be a more accurate number. Two of their players are undervalued. Indeed, the difference between the two clubs is not massive! Yokohama have netted the ball only three times in J2 League. Yes, their number of expected goals (xG) is a little higher but their offense has lacked some speed and creativity so far. They have allowed only two goals in this league so far but their number of expected goals allowed (xGA) is higher. In their last game Yokohama faced Tochigi on the road as clear favourites on the betting market - priced around 1.90 to win but lost 0-1. They recorded only two shots on goal despite the 62% ball possession.

In round 3 Yokohama beat Montedio Yamagata 2-0 at home and deserved the three points. However, I was not fully convinced by Yokohama's performance.. The visitors had 64% ball possession and also recorded many more attacks – 79-58. Thespa Gunma, on the other hand, had a decent last season and ended up in 11th place with 57 points in their pocket. However, their number of xPTS was bigger. Their score difference was 44:44. They have had a difficult start to this season and are in 19th place in the standings in this league with a total of 20 clubs. They have grabbed only two points but can improve in all areas of the game. In their last game they lost to Ehime at home 0-1 as narrow underdogs on the betting market. However, Thespa Gunma's T. Amagasa was sent off in the 61st minute. Without this they would have had a good chance of taking at least a draw. Ehime's Morishita was sent off in the 85th minute though. In round 3 Thespa Gunma lost to Chiba at home 1-3 as big underdogs – priced around 6.50 to win by the bookies. Yes, the visitors were the better team but the match was still closer than the final score would suggest. The hosts had 47 dangerous attacks – the visitors managed 63. Before this Thespa Gunma took a win over Sagamihara as well as two 1-1 draws. The current odds of around 1.50 on the home win are, based on my strongly data-based analysis, too low!
