This is a tie that's on a razor’s edge after finishing 1-1 in the first leg in the Netherlands. That game saw Dortmund take a 24th-minute lead through Donyell Malen before PSV talisman Luuk de Jong converted a penalty in the 56th minute to level the scores, which is how it finished. PSV dominated the game, with 14 shots to Dortmund’s eight, giving up nearly half the number of fouls and bossing possession too.

However, I felt PSV Eindhoven’s best chance of eliminating Dortmund was to win at home, and now it will be very tough to go to Germany and get the victory.

It was their former player Donyell Malen who dealt the blow by opening the scoring in the first leg, and his pace and power will again be key because defenders don’t enjoy playing against him.

Big striker Niclas Fullkrug poses a physical threat in the box, and I’m sure manager Edin Terzic will want his creators – such as Marco Reus and Julian Brandt – to provide him with opportunities. And Jadon Sancho has been featuring regularly since returning to Dortmund, so he could have an impact on the left.

Borussia are fourth in the Bundesliga, six points off third place, and unlikely to catch them. So that’s why I see them focused on the Champions League and this fixture.

PSV will want to keep Dortmund goalless for as long as possible. If they can silence the crowd, their opponents may start to feel pressure. They were better than Borussia in the first game but didn’t take advantage of that, and now will struggle a lot because Borussia is a strong home team in the UCL: beat Newcastle United and drew against PSG and AC Milan.

Johan Bakayoko’s speed on the counter will be a big weapon in this game – if Dortmund get caught in possession in the opposition half, look for PSV to play long balls to release the winger.

Luuk de Jong also has an important role to play in terms of holding the ball up and bringing others into play, particularly those that are good on the ball such as midfielders Malik Tillman and Joey Veerman, who both have the ability to unlock the Dortmund defence with key passes.

I remember PSV’s games against Sevilla in the group stage, where they achieved a very lucky win in Spain (2:3), when till 66’ they were 2:0 and totally outplayed. But Ocampos made a mistake, received a red card and PSV scored three goals in the last 25 minutes of the game, including the last one at 93’. In the Netherlands, Sevilla achieved a draw 2:2 and PSV again scored in the last minute, at 95’.

I think that PSV has been very lucky in this tournament so far. They were totally outplayed by Arsenal away (4:0) whilst at home were lucky to achieve a draw (1:1) as they saw how VAR disallowed a goal to Arsenal at 82'. On the other hand, Borussia managed to qualify as leaders in the “group of the death” (PSG, AC Milan and Newcastle), with three points advantage with PSG and Milan, losing only one game against PSG in France.

In my opinion the teams are fairly evenly matched, but I see the crowd at the Westfalenstadion making the difference and Dortmund progressing, who have been performing much better than PSV in this tournament.
