I have consequently raised their power rating as the season has progressed.. However, the bookies seem to trust them too much already! The power rating reflects the teams' pure class with the best possible starting eleven – excluding the motivation factor and possible fatigue caused by a tough match schedule. However, they are definitely not the better team by pure class here. According to a well-known and respected German website, Transfermarkt.com, the visitors are the bigger team in terms of players' estimated total market value. Indeed, the Vallecano squad has an estimated market value of some 80 million euros. This is, in my expert opinion, too low. 104-106 million would be a more realistic number. The Alaves squad has a market value of some 70 million. This is more or less correct. Vallecano played well last season but this season has been more difficult – especially results-wise. They have 26 points to their account but their number of xPTS is massively bigger! They would have deserved 37 or 38 points! They have scored 23 goals and do lack individual skill in offense – to challenge for a top-8 position. Even so, their number of xG is 34.11. They have conceded 37 goals and their number of xGA is 34.45. Yes, the home advantage is there, of course, but Alaves do not have very enthusiastic fans by Spanish standards. Rayo Vallecano have played well on the road this season - taking 16 points – which is the 6th-best number in LaLiga. With the expected lineups I see Alaves only very slim favourites here – the bookies disagree and offer odds of only 2.15 on the home win. Rayo Vallecano to take at least a point is the obvious smart bet here!

Neither team have won any of their last five games. Alaves lost their last game against Osasuna away from home 0-1. Osasuna deserved the win as they had 55% ball possession and recorded many more goal attempts (15-10), attacks and dangerous attacks. They also generated more in xG. Before this they took a point at home against Mallorca - it was a 1-1 draw. However, Alaves were very disappointing as a whole. They recorded only one shot on goal - Mallorca had eight. Alaves were priced around 1.90 to win the game by the bookies but Mallorca generated much more in xG – 2.34-0.53 to be precise. Rayo Vallecano were not at their best in their last game but took a point at home. It was a 1-1 draw against Cadiz. Rayo Vallecano did generate a little more in xG than the visitors though. Before this they lost to Girona 0-3 away from home as big underdogs. Girona are currently in 2nd place in the league table, before Barcelona1 The final score is misleading as Girona generated 1.84 in xG - Rayo's number was 0.66. I expect the visitors to climb up the standings as they have been unlucky this season – as mentioned before – but also because they can improve in all areas of the game! In round 25 Rayo Vallecano were strong at home against the best team in Laliga, Real Madrid. It was a 1-1 draw as big underdogs - priced over 5.00 to win by the bookies. They even generated more in xG - 1.33-0.89!
