Atletico Madrid is in good form, managing the rotations very well and keeping the competitive spirit. However, they need to continue pushing because they have now two serious rivals for the TOP3 which is their target: leaders Girona and Athletic Club, who are 5th just two points below them.

As said many times, the main difference with Atletico this season is their attack. Morata and Griezmann are in great form, they have scored 13 and 11 goals respectively, and they are being very effective upfront. Furthermore, Atletico is attacking well and generating a lot of chances in all games.

Another player who should be important this season is Memphis, who is also in good form, as he scored a goal in the weekend game against Valencia.

Furthermore, Atletico is a beast at home. They are unbeaten since more than a year ago, which was in January 2023 against Barcelona. In La Liga they have won 19 of their last 20 home games, being a very difficult team to beat there and winning against strong sides such as Real Madrid or Real Sociedad.

On the other hand, Rayo’s season is being very mediocre in my opinion. They gained a lot of points in the first rounds with a lot of luck, as they were lucky in many games there. But recently they are showing their real level: a team who should be fighting to avoid relegation and if they are not in the relegation zone, is because the teams in relegation this season are weaker than other seasons.

They have a huge lack of goal with only 18 goals scored in 21 rounds, and their main strikers have scored 0 goals (Falcao, Raul de Tomas) or 2 in the best case (Camello). Their topscorer is winger Alvaro Garcia with 4 goals.

The most worrying thing is that lately they are not even generating too much upfront. It’s very easy for rivals to defend them, as they just need to close the lines and not leave spaces in the area, and Rayo is unable to find alternatives.

Rayo has won only 1 of the last 11 league games, which was against Getafe who received two red cards.

In the previous game this season Atletico destroyed Rayo winning 0:7. Of course I’m not expecting the same here but I believe that Rayo will struggle to generate chances whilst Atletico should be able to score at least 1 or 2 goals. Seeing the current form and recent performances from both teams, Atletico should be able to win here without problems.
