Qatar, the current AFC Asian Cup winners, managed to qualify to ⅛ finals as the best team in the tournament: 9/9 points, without conceding a single goal and with great performances.

They played very well in the three games, showing quality and confidence. Even against China with reserves they controlled the game and won 1:0. Upfront they have a lot of quality and alternatives, able to create chances against defensive teams (such as Tayikistan) but also with spaces at counters, as shown in the opening game against Lebanon (3:0). Just a note: Palestine drew 0:0 with Lebanon just a few months ago (October) in the World Cup Qualifiers.

Their best player is Akram Afif, who has also scored three goals and one assist so far, but he is not the only one with quality in Qatar, because striker Amoez Ali is also a serious danger for the rivals. He has scored one goal and gave two assists so far.

Defensively no need to say that they are very strong and well-balanced, because they have also conceded very few expected goals so far.

On the other hand, Palestine managed to qualify to ⅛ finals which is a big success for them. They have a very weak squad whose value is ⅓ of Qatar’s value.

They managed to qualify thanks to the victory in the last round against Hong Kong, one of the worst teams in the tournament, and they secured the qualification as one of the best third-placed teams in the group stage.

Against Hong Kong they conceded pretty much (1.22 expected goals), whilst Iran scored them 4 goals (lost 4:1) and United Arab Emirates they were lucky because when they were losing 0:1, rivals received a card + penalty which changed the match completely. However, playing against 10 players for more than 60 minutes, they weren’t able to win the game and only drew 1:1.

I’m expecting a match totally dominated by Qatar, who has much more quality here. Palestine will set a defensive system, trying to create chances at counters. But seeing Qatar’s defense during the tournament, I’m not expecting too many chances for Palestine.

Furthermore, Qatar will have less fatigue as rested several key players in the last game against China.
