Grenoble host Auxerre for this French Ligue 2 round 21 battle at Stade des Alpes  early Wednesday morning Beijing time. This is the second tier of French football. The level of this league is quite high by European standards – for a second tier I mean. The hosts' offense, on the other hand, has a very good structure but sometimes lacks creativity to break the opponent's well-organized defence. They have netted the ball 27 times in Ligue 2 and their number of xG is 30.11. Their defence, on the other hand, does not have any obvious weaknesses! Indeed, they have conceded only 19 goals. I expect Grenoble to put big pressure on Auxerre's defenders here right from the kickoff. They have loyal and loud fans boosting them! Auxerre recorded 1.54 in xG – the visitors managed 1.33. Before this they lost to Nice in a Coupe de France (French Cup) game away from home 0-1 after penalties. Nice are, of course, a big team though. They dominated the game allowing Auxerre only 0.23 in xG. The visitors also recorded only one shot on goal. Grenoble have not been quite at their best lately but have still won two of their last competitive matches. In their last game they faced Dunkerque at home and it was a 2-2 draw. Grenoble looked oddly disorganized in this game but I will not overreact to this match. The visitors also played a better-than-normal match. Grenoble generated 1.43- in xG – the visitors recorded 1.18.
