In my opinion Aston Villa have all the required tools to win this game and book their place in 4th round of the FA Cup.

Obviously, there is a huge difference between both teams in terms of quality and potential. Aston Villa had a fantastic season, they finished 2023 with 42 points and they have realistic chances for the title. When Leicster made a huge shock and won the league, they finished the year with 39 points.. Middlesbrough is in the middle of the table in Championship and lost 12 of 26 matches (6 of 13 at home).

I believe Aston Villa today will play with a pretty strong line up. There are no injury problems in the team, only one key player is unavailable today - defender Digne. After today’s game Aston Villa have 8 days off (and 16 days off after the next game) so I don’t expect a big rotation. On the other hand Middlesborugh have serious squad problems before today’s game. They are without first goalkeeper Dieng, key wigner Silvera, important midfielder McGree, key defender McNair, striker Forss (2 goals) and three defenders from rotation - Dijksteel, Lenihan and Smith. It's a big blow and should have a very bad impact on their performance. In addition to that, Middlesborugh going to play in Tuesday the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi final. For sure this is the biggest priority for them, a much more important game than today’s match. I expect rotation.

Middlesbrough is in poor form, losing 5 of the last 8 league matches. In the last round lost 1:3 at home against Coventry and looked very bad at the back (2.27 expected goals conceded). Aston Villa scored 3 goals in the last round at home and won against Burnley (3.23 expected goals scored). They should be able to score more than one goal against a depleted hosts defensive formation and win this game, simple as that.
