Another “must have” sort of game on Saturday is Brighton’s visit to Sheffield. As you probably know the home side has been relegated to Championship for weeks now,but were officially confirmed as relegated only in the previous round after 0-1 loss to Wolverhampton. However, it’s fair to say they have had nothing left to play for but their pride for a long time. It is not helping that all games have 0 fans present, so Sheffield is really a pity sight to witness.

Change of manager by the board has not proved a wise move as successor Paul Heckingbottom has yet to win a game or even earn a point since taking charge of the team. 1:13 goals difference in 5 official games is his current record.

Team news have little relevance, I believe, for Sheffield as they are clearly a Championship level side with nothing left to fight for.

Brighton, in turn, has been one of the best performing teams in EPL lately.

An interesting article I had come across a month ago showed that Brighton is 2nd worst team in terms of chances conversion to chances created ratio in Europe (goals scored to Xg) in European top leagues - behind 1st placed Borussia Dortmund. If Potter’s men were a few fractions better at finishing, Brighton would’ve been in Europa League zone, at least. In other words, the quality of Brighton’s football does not correspond with their table position. This is why Tomas Tuchel and his Chelsea were happy to take a 0-0 draw against Albion in the midweek game, but actually deserved to lose that fixture as Brighton had the better chances in an overall dead game.

Visitors are still not 100% safe from relegation and, considering how they treated the Chelsea fixture, their main focus is on Sheffield and projected 3 points from that game. A win here will more/less set them free of any relegation worries as Fulham will then be 10 points behind. Moreover, the schedule, which has Brighton face Leeds, Wolves, West Ham, Man City and Arsenal means there is no easier game left but the visit to Sheffield.

I am expecting Brighton to finally make their advantage count and take crucial 3 points from this match.
