As expected before the start of the Champions League, in Group G, Manchester City and Leipzig are in the first two positions. With Red Star and Young Boys in the group, realistically speaking, they are much better teams. Leipzig started the group stage with a victory against Young Boys, and in the next round they experienced a well-deserved defeat against Manchester City. After a somewhat weaker game against Bochum at home and a 0-0 result, on the road Darmstadt showed that it was only a momentary weakness and that they are by no means a team to be underestimated. They have a fantastic team made up of very high quality players like Werner, Poulsen, Forsberg and Olmo, who have been at the club for years, and from this season Xavi Simons, Openda and Sesko are members of the team. They play very fast and offensive football, and for the last few years they have been at the very top of German football. Now they have two consecutive matches against Red Star and in case of victory in these matches, the passage to the next stage of the Champions League would be almost certain. I honestly think that the quality of these two teams is incomparable and that Leipzig will not have too many problems in front of their fans to achieve a convincing victory.

Considering the investments made in this transfer period, as well as the results from the preparatory period and the beginning of the championship, it was expected that Red Star will easily win the new title of Serbian champion and will be able to join the fight for the first two places leading to the next phase of the Champions League. However, the reality is completely different. The game they show in the domestic championship is totally different compared to the one from the preparatory period, when, for example, they outclassed Fiorentina with 5-0. They reach the points with a lot of difficulty, the best example of which is the last game in the league, when they achieved a 3-2 victory at the very end of the game against a team that is expected to fight for survival. They allow the opponents chances in front of their goal too easily, the defense seems quite insecure at times, and against a quality team like Leipzig, it can be disastrous.
